My fiance is suprised about DJ costs

What is the estimated cost of your DJ (if you are hiring one for the reception)?

We are finding prices between 1000-1800 is this normal? I think it is (for a professional night club DJ) but my fiance is upset by this.

We paid $1250. The highest price I came across when we were shopping around was $1400. IMO $1800 is too much. HTH.

I'd say 800-1400 is an "average" range.  Mine came it at ~850.

I think it's pretty normal for what you're looking for. The highest I found when looking was $2K.

We're using someone who does DJing on the side, it's not his primary source of income. He's about $800.

Check Craigslist.  I found several DJs on there for about $500-600, and they had great reviews when I googled them.  We are fortunate enough to have a friend who is a DJ to do our wedding, but I plan on using one of the $500 ones in case the friend falls through!  I can't believe there are ones out there for over $1000... I agree with your FI, that's just crazy.

I think that's pretty normal. Our DJ atarts at 1400 and after adding the things we want like uplighting and picture screens it came to about 2600! Sounds like alot but I've been to sooo many wedding this year where the entertainment was bad and it made for a not-so-entertaining wedding. DJ's are important IMO! Good Luck!

My FI and I had sticker shock when we started calling. I was blantantly told by a DJ be willing to shell out 1500+ if I wanted a good DJ, I was shocked at the comment. However we kept searching around and our DJ is around $750 and that's for 7hrs.  We opted not to have bubble or fog machines. I didn't think they were necessary for a wedding.

Our DJ was Jeremy Ganss and he has a non negotiable price tag of $2000. However, we specifially wanted him because he is not your "typical" DJ. We had a multi cultural wedding (Eastern European/American) and were very nervous about picking a random DJ just for the sake of low price because we knew fusing the two different cultures and styles of music would be tricky. We also absolutely didn't want things like the electric slide, fog machines, flashing lights, etc. We envisioned an elegant, modern, and romantic evening and that is what he delivered! Wedding entertainment is not something he does on the side, it is his fulltime job and he is extremely detail oriented and devoted. We absolutely loved him and would highly recommend him!!!

My friend and coworker's husband is a DJ, and his costs for 2012 are about $900-$1000. He does an excellent job and can do add ons such as lighting if you like. He also has a program on his website that allows his customers to have their own profile and pick out songs they want played, don't want played, and might like to have. That way he know all the types of music we like and don't like. We can also put in our timeline, wedding party names, and stuff like that so he will have it the day off. He is very on top of things and that is important in a DJ. You do want someone with experience who knows how to work a crowd and will help make your wedding day go smoothly.

Arron Howard - Nameless Entertainment. Very affordable (around $1k) and we still hear about how great our DJ was at our wedding almost a year later. He really knows how to work a room and is very good at playing the right music at the right time. Great professional and highly recommended!
