centerpieces

So background: Our wedding is near pittsburgh, but fiance and I live near OBX and VA beach which VA beach is my FAVORITE place in the whole wide world.. I'm such a lucky adult to now be able to go to the beach whenever I want. (I used to go to VA beach as a kid with my parents and siblings)

Anyways, because we go to the beach so often and even doing a beach honeymoon we decided to have a beach wedding theme.. don't worry it's nothing over the top... right now we just have guest book, pen and cake cutters being beach themed. My mom thinks we should do a beach theme cake topper, but our cake is very traditional and elegant, so I'm passing on that idea.

So, here's my idea for centerpieces... oval glass jars holding it, most likely will do various sizes with sand in our wedding colors (purple and malibu blue) might also add some more colors like white and different shades of blue... then an LED candle inside the sand on top.. like the picture attached. My family tends to not like big flashhy centerpieces and nor do FI and I... so I thought this might be a good idea since it would be low and not in anyone's way. I just have to make sure my venue would allow sand in the first place. I already have the LED candles. I thought this would be cool since after dinner, my venue dims the light down so the candle light would be showing a lot during that time.

Do you like this idea? Or too beachy for a traditional wedding?

Please note: The picture shows flowers etc in it, this would just be the sand ones, no flowers.

  • I actually really like that idea.  I also like how in the picture they mix both sand and flowers.  Just gives a different texture and breaks up the monotony of the sand.  Or if you don't want to do flowers, you could always get seashells and pile them in to a glass container.  You could even modge podge on some glitter to some of the shells so when the light hits it then shine a bit.

I also think it would be a great idea to mix up the color sand.  Adding in the white would help bring in the elegance that you are going for while the colors will add that pop of something-something.

As for your venue not allowing sand.  I don't see them having a problem since it will be contained rather then spread over the table top.

I will have to keep this idea in mind for any friends who may be wanting a beach theme wedding.

  • Thanks :) I think their flower thing is just a lay? I don't know.. maybe some fake flower petals? I also like the idea of shells, that's easy to get since I can just go to the beaches haha. Nice and free ;)

imageimage This is our guest book/pen and cutters.. so the shells would go along well with those as well. Didn't get the champagne glasses, figured I could always buy them at a later date if I wanted to.

  • I really like it. Very pretty. I always prefer low centerpieces or Eiffel tower arrangements  so I can actually see people on the other side of the table. These are perfect and will look great when the lights go down.

If you're into DIY, it might be cool to secure strands of pearls (can buy strands at Michael's for about $1) around the rim. It'd tie in with your guest book and such.

  • I think those look great! If I wanted a more elegant look, I would use mainly white sand with thin strips of sand in your colors.
  •  I like the concept of mixing the smaller vases of sand with a single slightly larger vase of shells on each table. I also agree that using mostly white sand will make the centerpieces look more elegant.
