Wedding Woes

Wedding QUICKLY appraoching, almost nothing done. Wedding is also on $3000 budget

So my wedding is on 9 Nov 2013.

All we have is the rings and my dress ordered. (Rings in 25 Sept 13, Dress in 30 Sept 13).  (these are not included in the budget, because we our paying for our rings, interest free for the next year for only $87 a month :) gotta love Zales and my dress is already bought and paid for)

Hopefully having the wedding at our base chapel, and the reception at the club on base. (still looking at a few venues)
Have contacted several wedding officiants in my area, but it seems that, because we're in Charleston and it "the it place" to get married. finding someone is so damn hard.
Hopefully having a photography school student to photograph because that save lots of money.
Thinking fake flowers for everything but my bouquet.
I don't have a theme :(
Invitations haven't been done :(
No baker yet. :(
My maid of honor is my sister and shes back home.

Any tips, and not, hire a wedding planner, I'm not paying for one. It's going to be a quite small wedding. Don't really need one.

Re: Wedding QUICKLY appraoching, almost nothing done. Wedding is also on $3000 budget

  • tip: if you don't have a venue or an officiant (or anything else) lined up, you don't have a date.

additional tip: go to the budget brides board and be more specific on what information you're looking for.
  • First you need to establish a wedding date.  A $3,000 budget is awsome. Are you having small food items...I would suggestest Sams and have a friend to prepare the menu. Their is nothing wrong with artifical flowers...I was thinking the same thing also. Hope everything goes as planned ...you can do it.
  • Yea I agree with prettyfacegal. You don't have a date, so I would find the place to get married and officiant, and then set it as the date, especially since you are two months out. In my opinion, you need to get this figured out ASAP if you any to get married in November because invitations should be sent out a minimum 2 months before the wedding to give guests time to get off work and such.

  • Don't use fake flowers.  Set a budget & get real ones.

You said something about a "base"  Is there a chaplain?  If it doesn't have to be religious ask the local mayor.

Check out www.bbcprint.com for reasonably priced on line invites but you better hurry or you are going to end up paying for a "rush".  Consider e-mail rsvp to save on stamps for the return postage.

  • so I  have never posted anything before tonight and not even sure if this is okay but saw quick wedding so hoping no one minds if I post this here but figured I am on here so why not............do you think it is possible to pull off a formal wedding by 11/3/13..........not starting cold, but nothing is booked.............. have made numerous phone calls so pretty much know most prices and availability, ordered my dress ( paid rush fee) and had bridesmaids try dressed on basically it is just getting over indecision picking color, invite etc and pulling the trigger......if yes, I am in New York and am afraid and freaking that if I just do this by this year and going into months where days are shorter, I may regret not having any beautiful out door photos ( sun will set that day before we get to hall from church)......actually was trying for 10/20/13 but mother has tortured me so much about certain things (family issue) that could not follow through or focus to get it done quickly enough..so now upset about the daylight/photo issue....opinions please reassurance or otherwise telling me to wait til next year either way.....

  • I really would suggest a day-of coordinator. Trust me. Our budget was 3K, too - and we ended up making most of the food ourselves, were able to get flowers (in crystal pitchers found at second hand shops), an officiant and a location. It was a huge undertaking, but the only thing I regret is not having a day-of coordinator because it was hard to enjoy my wedding when nobody knew what was going on.

If you can't afford one maybe ask a good, very organized friend to coordinate. Give her your schedule and all, but don't just assume your guests will know what is going on. LOL

    You can make this work!

  • My budget was also around $3000.  The bulk of the cost went to food.  We also did silk flowers that we purchased at auctions and yard sales and rearranged them.  It was beautiful.  My brother was ordained and performed the ceremony in a local park.  Our reception was at our town civic center and cost $150.  However, you are cutting it very close time wise.  We booked the hall and the park about 6 months out.
