SQWEEE NWR

Today was an amazing day. The past few weeks have been very hectic. My FI and I just moved to Pittsburgh.  He has been attending his academy training for the police department. I have started my social work classes, interviewed for internships and spent a good deal of time getting lost in the city. I was offered four out of my five placements, but I hadn't heard from the fifth placement which is the one I really wanted. I bugged my fieldwork placement advisor and he said I should hear from them today. So like an anxious twit I waited at home hovering around my cellphone. At 12 PM, my FI calls and tells me that he is on the top of the eligibility list in his graduating class! I got extremely excited, and decided to do something special.

When I get anxious, or need to cope with something I bake and decorate my "creations". So I turned my anxiety about the internship and produced a lovely surprise for him!

As soon as I finished putting the final touches on the cake, I got a call from my top choice internship and they offered me a placement!!! GAH SO EXCITED!  Anyway he comes home at 10:30 tonight, and I really hope he enjoys it!

Re: SQWEEE NWR

  • Wow! Congratulations to your FI and you! What an awesome day! The cake looks awesome.
  • Thank you! I wish he'd come home already! I'll let you know how he reacted.
  • Amazing cake! Congratulations to the both of you!
  • You are very talented! Congrats on the great news!
  • So my FI came home and was stunned by the cake. He didn't want to eat it because he liked the decoration. I will admit that I went against tradition and was the first person to cut the cake and eat a slice (I managed to do it in a way so that the badge wasn't harmed). He's eaten a good portion of the cake since.
@KeptinStitches, @psychbabe314, and @500days, Thank you! I'm so excited for the years ahead, and I am pretty sure that I will continue to make/decorate cakes when I am stressed. I've been told that I should make a business out of it, but I know that it would not be practical right now due to limited free time and a bad economy.
On an unrelated note: @500days congratulations on your recent engagement!

  • Thanks @bride2b71614 You should check your state labor laws for baking from home. One of my closest friends is a stay at home mom and has a treats/gifts home business that she runs off of facebook. She has even expanded to "decorate your own cupcake" kid birthday parties on the weekends. Go for it!
  • I didn't get a chance to see the cake until now, lol. It looks delicious! Congrats to both of you, you both have a lot to be proud of!
  • I never thought of that! I should check state laws for running a kitchen bakery...I just found out that I shall be working alongside a law student (dual MSW JD candidate) in my new internship maybe he'll be able to direct me to the right source. I wish I had more time, my head is currently buried in policy books, social work practicum books, and a sociology book with a heavy emphasis on race/class/gender. My FI snapped a ton of pictures and showed them to his fellow cadets. They all want one too/are asking if him if I could make my little pony cakes etc. This should/could keep me busy for the next few weeks when I get stressed (at least I have a direction to go in). @500days I will keep you updated to see if state law permits it.
