Wedding Invitations & Paper

Does everyone get a program?

Are you planning one program per person or one per couple? Most people are going to pitch it as soon as the ceremony is over so I don't want to spend a ton on programs overall, but I want them to be nice. The program I designed is about $1 each (vellum overlay, a couple pages metallic text, cardstock backing and a rhinestone brad holding it together). We are expecting about 200 invited guests and then including an announcement in my church program for anyone to attend (this is typical for my church and I embrace it). My concern is that we don't know how many people will show with the open invitation to the church so I would like to plan for 250 and ask my hostesses to give programs out by couple/family. If someone asks for their own they can get it. Thoughts? What are you planning?

Re: Does everyone get a program?

  • I think you should plan on one per person, especially since it's a free-for-all for the ceremony and you never know who saves programs.  If the cost bothers you, go with a less expensive option.

For us, I found a program template that both my FH & I loved, he edited the colors on his computer, and I'm printing them out on cardstock.  And we're doing one per chair at the ceremony since we have 74 confirmed guests with 4 standing up there with us and the venue is putting out 72 chairs (people are going to get real familiar :) ).

  • We printed one per person and we ended up with about 40+ leftover programs. So, in summary, about 75% of our guests took programs.

I have read that it's one per couple. We needed more, but we certainly didn't need one per person.

  • I'm planning to order order 100 for approximately 150 guests.
I am doing the same :)

  • Thanks, ladies! I think I'll go with 200 for 240 invited guests. Our numbers could change as we get closer. The wedding isn't until April. Maybe I'll have a better sense of church members that will come who weren't personally invited. I was just trying to plan so I could purchase my paper. I'm printing mine too and we're doing an old-fashioned assembly line since my friends want to help in some way.
  • I had 200+ people at my ceremony, printed 75 of them...and we still had some leftovers...to be safe, I would do 50% of your exepcted attendance.
  • We did 75 for 92 guests, and had about 15 leftover. I definitely wouldn't print 1 per guest.

I don't think I would do 50% at all. Especially if it's an open invite to the church. Never know how many church people just like attending wedding ceremonies :)

  • I printed 1 per guest BUT my church apparently steals some and then uses them for future weddings as examples of the ceremony order. When I met with the church wedding coordinator she had approximately 20 from each wedding this past year. I always want to keep some as keepsakes, so I figure better safe than sorry! But, at the time we ordered we thought we would have 150-175 guests, and now we are at 200 and still have a few who have told us orally they'll be there, but no official RSVP.
