Rehearsal Dinner Invitations??

Ok, this is my 2nd wedding, I have been asking a TON of questions lately...truth be known...it's been over 21 years since my 1st wedding and I didn't have much say in that one back then.  Anyways...question is, should I plan on sending out rehearsal dinner invitations to the wedding party?  Also, if so, who all do I send these invites to???

The only reason you need to have a RD is if you're having a rehearsal. And you don't need to have a rehearsal unless you really feel you need one.

That said, the only people who need to be invited to the RD are the people are participate in your rehearsal and their SOs. I've never been to an RD without immediate family. Some invite grandparents. And fewer invite people from out of town. It just depends on your budget, how large of a get together you want and what type of an affair you want to host.

You should send out invitations for this if you decide to do it. You can make your own or order them - obviously making your own can save you money.

We made our own invitations with blank ones from Michael's. We invited our WP and their SOs, our officiant and his SO, our immediate families, our grandparents, our aunts and uncles (no cousins), the hostesses of our showers and their husbands, and a few OOT guests. We had a pretty large budget, so this was possible. If we'd had a smaller budget, we would have just had WP w/ SOs, officiant w/ SO and immediate family.

  • I think RD invites really depend on how fancy your RD is going to be.

As for who to invite, you should include anyone that has a role in the actual ceremony (and their SOs) plus parents. You can, of course, include others if you would like but it isn't required.

We didn't use invitations.  I had just sent an email to the wedding party letting them know what time they needed to be out the venue for the rehearsal and day of and also what time hair and makeup was going to start for the girls.  In that email I also included the time and place of the RD and that their SOs were more then welcomed to join in on the fun.

  • It depends on your group.

DH's immediate family will assume they're not invited until they receive a physical formal invitation. To avoid confusion, we sent hardcopy invites to everyone.

I whipped something together quickly on Powerpoint or Publisher, printed it on cardstock, and mailed them out.

    Parents of the Bride

    Parents of the Groom

    Grandparents

    Siblings/nieces/nephews of bride/groom

    Wedding party and spouses/dates

    Readers and spouses/dates

Officiant, musicians, and wedding planner (anyone participating in the rehearsal as applicable...depends on your relationship)

I like the idea of an email!  I figure this day and time that email should count.  I was thinking just our parents and wedding party (both of our siblings are in it somehow) and their SO's.  Perfect, thanks for the advice!  :-)
