I feel like everyone who is posting today is cranky and that is making me cranky. I also feel like I am responding to people's crankiness like a brat, but I feel like as long as I recognize I'm responding like a brat, that's okay. I'm not being bratty to their e-faces, at least. I'm responding politely in posts, but being bratty in my head.

1. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?  What did you actually become?

1. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?  What did you actually become? I wanted to be a nurse, according to the home videos my mom was watching yesterday. Between there and nursing school, though, I also wanted to be a pediatrician, an architect, a dog breeder, and a checker at Giant (I liked the BOOP sound of the scanner, OK?).

2. If you could go anywhere in the world and cost was no option, where would you go? On a safari, back through the UK and the Republic of Ireland, Australia, and a whole trip through the US, including Alaska and a place called Orcas Island where I will supposedly see some killer whales!

3. What's the one food item that can always make you feel better? Chocolate cupcakes from this bakery near my house, and Coke Zero. And pizza. That is three food items, and I don't care!

I am 99.9% my mother. I look exactly like her. I give too much of myself, I often think of others before myself, I am starting to have issues with anxiety, I do ridiculous things that make other people laugh.

I'm 0.1% NOT like my mother in that I care about my health by watching what I eat and working out.

I'm a little like my dad, too, in that I'm easy-going.

1. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?  What did you actually become?

I don't remember what I wanted to be when I was very little. As a teen I wanted to be a medical examiner/forensic pathologist. I am actually a scientist and soon-to-be training to become a biosafety specialist. Close-ish to my childhood dream, I suppose.

2. If you could go anywhere in the world and cost was no option, where would you go?

I would travel all over Europe. For months and months. But first I'd go straight to London. . . my best friend lives there and I miss her like crazy this week.

Soup, specifically a white chicken chili stew I make.

It sounds cliche but my parents. They pushed me to succeed when I was younger and now I'm out of college with a BA and a job and I'm quite happy.

Ummm... I'll be nice here.  I'm sensitive and emotional like my mom, but I have my father's logical reasoning skills.  I'm different because they're so extreme as people that they're almost caricatures.  My mom has no ability to be logical, and my father has no ability to be emotional/sentimental.

Who has been the biggest influence on your life?

My husband.  He taught me how to be a responsible adult.  He taught me how to love unconditionally.  He taught me how to REALLY trust in someone.  He taught me that it's ok to be vulnerable.

If you had to spend $100 in the next hour on one item, what would it be?

I'm cheating, but I'd buy a $100 Amex giftcard.  Then I'd go to Sephora and buy a Marc Jacobs eyeshadow palette ($59) and a Marc Jacobs eyeliner ($25) and frivilously spend the rest.

I'm close with my brother.  I wouldn't say I'm close with my dad.  And my mom...we're close-ISH.  She's very difficult to get along with because she has a borderline personality disorder.

Even though I don't want kids, I'm very adamant about not sharing baby names. I've seen so many of my friends go through name stealing drama.

I chose it quickly honestly, and I'm not a fan. But I love Alice in Wonderland, so that works

I don't know that I'm really like them at all. I don't particularly get along with them.

Who has been the biggest influence on your life?

My boyfriend. He's helped me overcome a lot of my issues and just become a better person all around.

If you had to spend $100 in the next hour on one item, what would it be?

This tea detox thing. The company is based in australia, but I've seen nothing but amazing results from it, and it's not a laxative, which a lot of detox/weightloss teas are. I don't normally buy into stuff like that, but I want to give it a shot anyway.

Boxer briefs! i never understand how guys who wear boxers could get their pants up without giving themselves a big wedgie.

Yes and no. I'm more of a middle of the road kind of girl... I don't want coke bottle but I don't want hot dog if you know what I mean!

The chicken cause there would have been nothing to incubate the egg.

Did you ever wish you could delete a year of your life? What would it be?
I'm not sure. I don't think I'd be where I am without the bad times.

Are you close with your parents and/or siblings?
No and no. My siblings are half siblings who lived with their mother, and the youngest is 6 years older than me. We didn't grow up together and we don't particularly keep in touch.  FB and Instragram though have actually made me closer with my middle brother, who is surprisingly most like me personality wise. We're not "close" but we actually talk, which is something.

What kind of mac and cheese is your favorite?

If we're talking Kraft, is 3 Cheese Shells all the way. If It's homemade, I'm all about Rachel Ray's "Cheesy Mac and Trees"

Single cosmetic product you could not live without?

Mascara.

I honestly don't know. I haven't seen that many to remember whose ring is whose!

I haven't done much travelling in my life, but I'd have to say CO. There's a reason I chose to move here!!

Phira (pronounced "FEE-rah") is short for Sapphira, which has been my internet pseudonym for over 10 years.

How are you like your parents? How are you not?

I'm like my dad because I'm stubborn, I'm excellent at navigating while driving, and I am a boss at fridge tetris. Unlike him, I'm compassionate, feminist, and not a total asswipe (CLEARLY I have a terrible relationship with my dad). Like my mom, I love teaching, and I'm really good at public speaking. Unlike her, I'm incapable of keeping an apartment clean.

Who has been the biggest influence on your life?

My mom. When she divorced my dad and had to basically start her life from scratch, she made it look effortless. More than anything, she taught me to love teaching and learning, and to never accept the status quo if the status quo makes me miserable.

Close with my mom. Estranged (entirely) from my dad. Having trouble keeping my brother in my life. I'd be closer with my sister if 1) I weren't estranged from my dad and 2) if she didn't live across the country.

I make it at home by melting American cheese in milk (and sometimes adding a little salt and a little mustard powder). It's the best.

I wanted to be a princess. I was then informed by my brother that I couldn't be one because I wasn't royalty (he was a total jerk about it). I then wavered between veterinarian and lawyer. Ended up in social work school.

2. How does your SO react when you have PMS/Mood Swings/General Crankiness?

Asks how he can help, and gives me a hug. Or acts goofy to make me laugh. It really depends on how bad it is.

1. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?  What did you actually become?  I wanted to be a lot of things.  Sometimes I wanted to be an actress, other times a police officer, et cetera.  I am currently in school for the veterinary field.

2) What was your most recent embarrassing moment?  My FI was in the bathroom and I was getting ready for bed.  I was kind of face down in the bed but still standing (kind of like one might do at a desk).  My FI surprised me by quietly coming back into the bedroom and he kind of saw what I was doing and I just got embarrassed.  He didn't really care, though.

If you remember, what was the name of your first crush? Ha. I will not post his real name, but my BFF at the time judged me so hard for liking him, and she refused to refer to him as anything other than "Michael Finigan" (his name is similar to that).

How do you normally cut and style your hair? If you could change the cut/style as drastically as you wanted for just one day, what would you do? It's brown, just past my shoulders, and I usually do a ponytail. I would get some crazy wild curls and dye it auburn or red.

What is your least favorite season, and why? If you live somewhere without the four seasons, what's your least favorite weather and why? I cannot stand winter. I love fall and I love spring, but winter is just too. freakin. cold.

What movies make/have made you cry?  If there are none, what's wrong with you? LOL, well, nothing is wrong with me in this case, because literally all movies make me cry now. Let's see, Moulin Rouge always gets me at the end. Any movie based on a Nicholas Sparks book. Marley and Me. Up. Anything horrifically cheesy, pretty much.

If you could meet and spend the day with anyone in the world, who would it be? Why? Do people who have passed count? Because that would so be my grandma. If not, then...Kate Middleton. She seems pretty cool!

What position do you prefer to sleep in (side sleeper, stomach sleeper, back sleeper, you get the idea)? Always on my stomach, and I always build a nest around me before I go to sleep (I basically take four pillows and surround myself with them).

2) What was your most recent embarrassing moment? Sorry if this is TMI. I guess my allergies are acting up, and after class I got caught talking to a classmate for a while, and I could feel my nose starting to run and get all nasty, and I was sure she could see everything dripping out of it. I had zero tissues, and the conversation seemed like it would never end. That was awkward.

-Throw out some baby names you like for kicks and giggles. I love Susana, Natalia, Serafina, anything kind of Spanish-sounding for a girl (they would sound kind of weird with BF's German last name, though, so uh-oh). I have a hard time with boys' names, but Andrew, Nicholas, and Maximillian are "favorites" so far.

-What's your favorite animal? Why? I love killer whales. Been obsessed with them since I was a little girl and I don't know why. I have also fallen in love with elephants. And I love cats and dogs. Horses are growing on me too.

-What's the significance of your username? "Amapola" is the Spanish word for "poppy," which is one of BF's nicknames for me. 2014 is the year I graduate from nursing school. I kind of want to change it, but I don't know what I'd change it to, and y'all know me now, so...it seems unnecessary.

-How are you like your parents? How are you not? I have a lot of WEIRD-ASS MANNERISMS from both of my parents, lol. Both of my parents have always made up voices and characters and interacted with us in these personas, so I definitely have developed this weird quirk. (Took BF a minute to get used to that, lol.) I have my dad's sense of humor and, unfortunately, his temper. I have my mom's sensitivity and hopefully her skills at being a kick-ass nurse.

I am different from them in that I have always questioned the Christian faith, which our family is basically formed on, and am agnostic (though I do still prayer extremely comforting for some reason). I am also more moderate than they are on political/social beliefs and tend to be much more accepting of differences in general.

@bethsmiles, they are still working on my appeal, and it is showing up in my account as "ineligible." =/ I called them yesterday to ask for an update and haven't heard anything yet, so I am not counting on getting it back.

It's so dumb because they were about to offer me a scholarship that would have paid for my last class next summer. Other than textbooks, I could have graduated totally debt-free. As it stands now...just yuck.

I have a German last name, and my partner is Irish. A lot of very Celtic/Irish names do NOT go with my last name (Aiden is a HUGE fav name of mine but would go terribly with my last name), but the more general family names in my partner's family do sound okay with it. Favorite place you've ever traveled? London and Portugal. I loved the building in London, the people, the atmosphere. But Portugal was also on the list because of the beautiful beach. It was so relaxing and the locals were so cute! I remember a little girl (probably ~6) who came over to some friends and I while we were at a little restaurant and asked us if she could practice her English on us. It was so cute!

What kind of mac and cheese is your favorite? Any, I love mac and cheese! But... it tastes best when paired up with grilled hot dogs

If you remember, what was the name of your first crush? *sigh* his name was Blake and all of the girls in my class had the hots for him, lol. I looked up his picture a few months ago... he is super short!

How do you normally cut and style your hair? If you could change the cut/style as drastically as you wanted for just one day, what would you do? I normally do layers. If I could change it for a day, I would probably dye it some crazy colors.

What is your least favorite season, and why? If you live somewhere without the four seasons, what's your least favorite weather and why? Summer. I love the beautiful weather, but I am a complete baby when it comes to the heat. I guess about 1/2 way through Winter though, that is also my least favorite. The snow is no longer fun at that point.

How old were you when you met your S/O?  How old was he/she? 19 for me, 20 for BF. His 21st birthday was our first date. I still won't let him live down the stories ;-)

What movies make/have made you cry?  If there are none, what's wrong with you? @Amapola14, I love Moulin Rouge! I always tear up in the end! I really get into movies though! I will start talking to the characters, yelling at them not to open up doors, telling them to shut up, lol. It is a good think BF thinks it is cute.

If you could meet and spend the day with anyone in the world, who would it be? Why? My grandma, just one more day with her would be amazing.

What position do you prefer to sleep in (side sleeper, stomach sleeper, back sleeper, you get the idea)? My stomach and side. I shift a lot in my sleep :-)

2) What was your most recent embarrassing moment? Today, I was heading to class and when I walked into the building the floor was slippery from the rain. I was taking a sip of water and BAM!! I hit the floor. I was so embarrassed! The building is made mostly of glass, and the entry way is ~95% glass, so people all around saw me

@bethsmiles, my BF is really into Celtic names too, but luckily for us his last name would go well with lots of them. But... it does not go very well with the baby name I absolutely want! Helena... It was my grandma's middle name and I would love to use it or Helen.

I don't personally care for my last name, so I will probably change it when I get the chance.

Its so strange, I have an Irish FI (Irish sounding last name), and I am the one with the German last name. He has thrown a few Celtic names out there from time to time (which will go well with his last name). We've joked around saying that an appropriate compromise would be giving our child an old Norse name (mainly of viking descent). Then again, we wouldn't want our child to have to tell the teacher how to pronounce their name each year during the first day of school. As of now, we are thinking Sean, Heather, Kolbeinn, Freyja, Nora, and Finn.

Are you close with your parents and/or siblings? Yes and yes. I'm very close with both of my parents. I'm closer with @southernpeach89 than my other younger sister. There's a big age and maturity gap between us so that's why we aren't as close.

Favorite place you've ever traveled? As a child we lived in Germany and travelled to England and Italy so it's hard to beat that. As an adult my favorite place so far is Charleston, SC. I love the historical value of it and the culture is a lot of fun too! Second favorite would be San Luis Obispo, CA. I really just love that whole section of coastline.

What kind of mac and cheese is your favorite? I have a killer recipe for crock pot mac and cheese. It's unbeatable.
