Wedding Invitations & Paper

Sent out StDs but date has changed

I sent out our StDs already, but due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to change the date for 3 weeks later. (All of FI's mother's side of the family is out of state and I also have lots of friends out of state and wanted to make sure they had lots of notice). Should I send out a separate card saying something like "whoops! We jumped the gun, our wedding will now be held on July 19, 2014" or do you think Maybe contacting by phone or email would be okay? I really don't want to have to address 50 envelopes again and print the StDs again.

I would rather not wait to send out invitations with the new date either b/c I know that these OOT guests will be saving and planning and taking time off work and don't want them to have the wrong date up until 2 months before the wedding.

Re: Sent out StDs but date has changed

  • If you only need to contact 50 people/couples/families then I would just split the number down the middle and you call half and have your FI call half.  Just tell them that you had to move the wedding to X day.

  • You can't go on letting you guest think that your date is X when its really Y.  You could contact them by phone but I feel like calling 50 people would be more time consuming. It sucks having to send them out and pay for postage and address them but unless you want to call them I don't see another choice.  :(

If you split it up with your FI calling 25 people each for maybe a 1-2 minute phone call is not that time consuming.  And it is easy and free.

  • Well, you do have to notify anyone who was sent a save-the-date of your date change.  As PPs have suggested, I'd split the calls with your FI.
  • FI wants to send out new cards. How would you word it?
  • I like something like what you originally said, "Whoops, we jumped the gun! Sorry for the confusion. Our new date is XXX. Please update your calendars! Formal invitation to follow.
  • Do postcards via vistaprint. V. easy and inexpensive (and cheaper to mail!).

You can even upload your mailing list to VP and they'll (for a fee) send them out for you.

    Maybe..."Change the date!
Due to unexpected circumstances, our new wedding date is X/X/XX.  Formal invitations will follow.  Sorry for any confusion."
