Planet Hollywood? - Oh and new to this board!

Hey everyone! My husband and I are planning a vow renewal on Jan. 24, 2014 (5 years). We're locals and have decided on the Aria chapel for ceremony and are debating on somewhere for reception. We want something easy going, fun and low key and of course inexpensive. There will be 34 people including ourselves and are looking at Planet Hollywood. They have packages starting at $25 per person with no food and beverage minimum (awesome!). This is just close family and friends and no one (besides my mom) is traveling from out of town, so we aren't worried about expensive plated dinners.

I guess my question is has anyone ever had their reception there and do you have pictures/reviews?

Thanks!

Re: Planet Hollywood? - Oh and new to this board!

  • Welcome to the board sorry I can't help with much more then that
  • Thanks! I've tried searching for any info, but haven't found much. I do remember reading a post awhile ago where someone said they wouldn't have it there, but I don't remember why/how long ago.

I do have a few other questions: Does anyone know any photogs that would do just an hour of our reception? Aria provides photography for ceremony and we can purchase an extra hour for $150, but I would like a few pictures with our friends having a good time (without forking over thousands of $$).

  • I know Julie Bergonz charges by the hour but her rate is also $150. Were you looking for a strip tour or just photography at your dinner reception?

  • I don't know, that's what I'm trying to decide. I figured if we do hire one we could have them meet us at the Aria (after the ceremony) and just take pictures in various locations on the way to the reception. I don't want to stay outside too long since in January it's going to be freezing!!
  • I'm getting married at the PH chapel but we are having our dinner reception next door at the Paris. I'm no help with your catering question, but I can vouch for the young, Hollywood vibe at the hotel. It's in a great location on the strip, rooms are affordable and they have one of the most fun casinos I've gambled in. Have you considered a restaurant for your dinner?

We are renting a Boulevard suite for two of the nights we will be in town as a home base/happy hour spot for our group.

Check out Michael Perez for pictures. He has amazing hourly rates and is a super sweet guy to boot!

  • The part of Planet Hollywood that I'm looking at is the restaurant. I don't want a ballroom, and it seems like suite + catering is going to equal more than we want to spend.

That's really all I've been considering. I would love to keep it in the Aria or Cosmo, but I'm not willing to pay their prices per head and/or their ridiculous F&B minimums.

I've also looked at Firefly and Battistas (was hoping to stay on the strip - Never received a reply for Battistas), Hussongs Cantina, Serendipity 3, and a few Irish pubs.
  • welcome to the boards ;)  Iam not sure about the planet hollywood but im havin an insuite reception, caterered for about 25 pp....the suite is beautiful, Wrap around terrance suite  overlooking the strip or fountains!

  • @daisyygurl Have you picked a caterer yet?  I love Masterpiece but my weekend has a $1200 minimum.  We are looking at Firefly catering to the suite currently.

  • @Daisyygurl is it at Cosmo? I'm starting to warm up to the idea, but I just have a feeling it's going to be more than going to a restaurant.

@shoebunnie I tried Fireflys food and it was really good! They'd probably be my number 1 pick for price point.
  • @ K Everdeen  Daisy and I are both doing in suite receptions in a wrap around suite at the Cosmo.  I keep hearing how great the food is at Firefly and the menu looks awesome.  The fiance feels we would be happier having food catered from a restaurant versus a caterer.  I am on the fence, I want it all.

  • I emailed Cosmo about their wedding suite for just a reception/cocktail type thing and she said it's a minimum of $80/pp (plus taxes and fees, obviously)!! And that's only for 2-3 hours, right? That seems ridiculous seeing as how I can rent a suit and provide food and booze for close to half that and have the room for a night!
  • @K Everdeen the wedding suite is ridiculous. I looked at it as an option but it's 2,000 for the ceremony and I can't customize it the way I want so we decided our best option was to do it in our own suite. We have a small party so assuming we do not have problems getting the vendors up to the room everything is very affordable and just the way we want it!

  • Hi guys, sorry i have been so busy to get a chance to reply!  Yes doin the suite on your own and keepin it low key is what we are doing.  The wedding suite and there 80/pp is ridiculous.  We are getting either Masterpiece cuisine or Catering from Maggianos(which is really affordable and there food is awesome) We have around 25 people coming,  also we have the wrap around suite booked for two nights and will prep and decorate the night before :) I have priced it out and i think b/c you can buy your own alcohol the suite options seems to be cheaper option for us!

  • @daisyygurl does Maggiano's have a heavy appetizer menu for catering?

  • HI Shoebunnie...well they dont have a lot of apps, but we are makin it work with things like, stuffed mush, meatballs, brushetta, chicken parm, ravioli etc...kind of a mix :) plus we are doing a cheese platter with gourmet meats
