Sheet Cake

I'm having a small casual wedding with only about 40 guests.  I originally thought about a two tier wedding cake but I hate to spend double on what I want just because it has tiers.  We don't have the option of a smaller cake to show and sheet cake in the back of the house (it's outside in a pavilion no "back of house").  What are your thoughts on just having a sheet cake decorated pretty?  It will cost me 60% less than the tiered cake and still be the same quality.

It's fine.  Everyone has their priorities as far as what they want to splurge on for their wedding and saving 60% on a cake of the same quality as something more expensive is not a problem.

This is a personal preference. If you would rather save the money and have a sheet cake, it sounds really nice. There's nothing wrong with that!

My FSIL did this at her wedding. I thought it looked really nice. We were going to go with the cupcakes for about $3.75/ea. and the quote we got for the cake would've been $9-$10/pp. This may be a route you would like to take if you are worried about the simplicity of a sheet cake.

I think it's a fine idea. A Practical Wedding has recently had a few posts about decorating more "ordinary" cakes and they looked super pretty!

Go for it. I mean, some people don't even do cakes at all! Maybe they want a wedding cobbler it's totally up to you.

As a guest, I'm happy with cake...don't care how it's presented.
