What to Wear??

I've been given free tickets to a charity fundraiser tonight, in support of one guy running for city council.  Normally for fundraisers, I wear a cocktail dress, but I'm not sure here.  It's at a local church (our's actually, before we stopped going), so low key venue, but there is a silent auction and live band.  Invites was through e-mail, from the person who had bought the tables and the website for the event looks more on the informal side.  Nothing about dress code anywhere.  Any suggestions??

I'd wear Sunday best (church clothes), since this looks informal but is being held at a church. So many mixed signals, though.

I'm thinking I can't go wrong with black dress pants and a nice top.  But I think it's going to be a painful time in my closet tonight

This sounds like it would work for me. I'd go business casual.

Thanks all.  I actually found a dress in my closet which is a funky dress, but nice enough that it could work.  Some were there in cocktail attire, some in jeans.  On the plus side though, I won the 50/50 raffle, so I took home $185 on top of the free ticket for DH and myself!!  Whoop!!
