I am planning on getting my girls day of velour tracksuits.  Anyone know of sites to buy from or ones to avoid?

After talking with some my girls and reading some feed back I think we are going to do simple yoga pants and I will be getting them a zip up jacket, velour, jersey, or some sort of material..Personalization may be out, they do not mind... not getting bridesmaid put on it because that will make harder to wear in the future.  As for color we are getting them in a very soft pink...

Thanks for all the feedback :)

Re: Bridal Tracksuits / Jacket

  • I actually do, it is something three of us got together while in college and the other three got made when we cheered together so there is also a memory tied in with it, I want to get their initials put on them and the actual tracksuit to be in the wedding colors.

  • Velour or not still looking for some sort of tracksuit

  • Yeah, definitely make sure they'll wear them.  I wouldn't be caught dead in one.  And I wouldn't wear it if it was given to me.  Spend your money on something more special and meaningful. Not some silly tracksuit.
  • I don't know of a place, but do your girls want tracksuits? I would double check on this before you order them.  I wouldn't be caught dead in one no matter who asked me.  Remember, you don't get to dictate what your BMs wear apart from the dress for the ceremony.

Etsy probably has some different vendors selling them, complete with bedazzling and whatever you are looking for.
  • I am guessing you want these track suits because you want some cute getting ready photos.  If this is the reason then would you even bother getting these track suits if you weren't having getting ready photos taken?  If the only reason is for the getting ready photos then don't do it.

If all the girls actually love track suits then I would get them in black or grey because then that way they can use the pieces separately.  Any other color and then they may not really wear it because baby pink or light purple (guessing at your wedding colors) track suits just isn't something many people will want to wear together or separately.

  • If you go this route, make sure you're in the mindset of "These are cute to wear the day of my wedding but they will likely never be worn again". I bought my girls matching robes with their nicknames embroidered to wear while getting hair/makeup done on the day of my wedding. They were dirt cheap. No one will ever wear them again and I'm totally okay with that. I found the cheapest ones to be from the Knot actually, but you can get higher quality items from etsy at a much higher price.
  • Ugh, I just got horrible flash backs to the Ain't that funny J. Lo music video.

Why waste your money on something that you and your BMs might wear for a max of 6 hours. I promise you, the bedazzled "Future Mrs. Smith" isnt so cute after you are married.

  • I may order velour, hoodie style, jacket... something along that line... we are all around the age of 22 so that is also something we all wear on a lazy day, all 7 of us stock up on VS Pink jackets so it's something we all love but has a meaning behind it.

  • Honestly, there isn't a person on this earth I'm close enough to for me to wear a track suit, velour or not.

You are going to so this if you really want, but please make sure your girls want to wear them (not pressured) and it isn't their gift.

Fwiw, I hate things with initials on them. Are all of your BMs married?? What happens when they get married and have different initials? Just good for thought, though i would never volunterly wear a track suit on a wedding day, let alone after the fact. Most if these sort of cute things end up at goodwill wear hopefully someone will have the same initials!

  • My taste has changed a lot over the years. In college, my friends and I made t-shirts with quotes and in high school we had sweatpants for our volleyball team that said "smack it" on our asses (I can't believe I'm revealing that on a public forum... oh the shame).

If you are dead set on doing this, I'd go with just the hoodie - helpful when getting hair done. And definitely not velour. Get a soft jersey knit.

  • Are you thinking about getting them because they are a cutesy wedding idea you saw in a magazine somewhere, or because you think your girls will actually like them??

Personally, I'm not a fan of tracksuits in general and would not wear them after your wedding (I'm also really not a fan of "getting ready uniforms" either).  I'd wear it to make you happy (but I definitely wouldn't be happy about it), and it'd ultimately be a waste of money since I'd never wear it again.

But, if you know that your BMs would like something like this, both on your wedding day and after, then I'd suggest sourcing them from a normal store and skip the personalization.  You'd still get the same effect, but save a little money too.

If it's your thing with them than I'm sure they'll appreciate them. It sounds like your picking something very personal to you and your closest friends - so don't expect others to understand. ;-)
I did a few google search and there seem to be a number of options. Not knowing your color - you could get them a name brand set, like Juicy, and then have the initials embroidered on locally. Although getting them in black might be a safer bet. Or your school color? Then they could wear them on game day.

You don't have to be young to wear a hoodie.  I know a lot of people of all ages (from 70 down to 11) who love wearing hoodies on lazy, cold days.  My H who is 30 owns like 35 hoodies (crazy, yes) because he loves them.

I think if you all love hoodies then I would get each of them a hoodie that you know they will love. They don't all have to be the same just buy one that suits each person.  Also, don't force them to wear them on the day of your wedding.  Just let everyone wear whatever they are most comfortable in.

I was looking at Juicy, My girls love it... plus they have a sale going on.. so that is an option... just not trying to spend quite that much... may be my last resort though, if I do that I will most likely do just the zip up jacket.. Thanks :)

Why don't you just get a VS jacket and get it embroidered? Do a google search for custom embroidery in your area. Also try shops that do a lot of custom stuff like Things Remembered and ask them if they customize items that aren't purchased in their store - some will, some won't.

No one wants to wear matching tracksuits.

Personally, this would make me incredibly uncomfortable, as I don't go out in public in sweats or PJs by choice.

Not their only gift just a little something different I want to include, so instead of telling me what I shouldn't order why not actually give ideas on something I asked??? Don't mean to sound rude but my gosh I didn't think I'd have to defend a choice I have made.

I think you are misinterpreting the comments you've received.  There are a lot of people who see things online, or in magazines, etc that are geared towards convincing brides that they need all kinds of WR things that they really don't.  So when they come asking for suggestions, we have
your best interest at heart to make sure it's something YOU want, not something that some magazine told you you need.

Since it's something you said you and your girls have discussed and they will be happy to receive them, you did get many suggestions on where to go.  I still stick by my advice of not having them personalized, only because it makes it easier for them to re-wear them later.

I understand, and it sounds like your girls may actually enjoy them, but just remember to not go overboard to make them too wedding-centric because then they may not wear them again. I still wouldn't wear clothes with my name on it, but it's better than initials.

PP have you a lot of great ideas. Get quality sweatshirts like they Pink ones you mentioned or the juicy. And then get then embroidered.

  • I ordered a hoodie and pair of sweats from this website for my daughter.  The quality of the apparel was very nice.

    Preach.

But OP, if you know everyone will like it, then go for it, but I might avoid the personalization so that it is still usable after the fact.

  • On a side note - you might want to get zippered jackets - whatever style you decide on. If you get a pull on hoodie and they wear them getting ready they'll have to take it off before getting their hair done or it could mess up their hairdo. GL!
