Varuna/Ali- Breaking Bad

We watched! Sorry, promise that we will not delay next week. ;)

Thoughts: I cried when Jesse escaped and the resulting aftermath. I don't get Todd either. Does he have some sort of affection (misguided, psycopathic affection) for Jesse and that's why he's kept him from getting killed? I know he likes Lydia but the ice cream thing was weird. I've heard that the ricin is going to go to the Grey Matter people (I can't remember their names) but could it be that he does something to Todd and the Nazi crew?

I love this show. I really wish it had won more awards than the three it did because last week was outstanding. RJ Mitte (Flynn/Walt Jr) was outstanding in his scene in the office. Same with Aaron Paul.

Re: Varuna/Ali- Breaking Bad

  • I finally believed the actor that plays Flynn in that telephone conversation.

Someone pointed out to me that the scene with Skyler is a mimicry of when Walt was told about his cancer, which is just bloody brilliant.

Todd can't get the percentages that Jesse can, so he keeps him, so he can make monies to win Lydia.  I want Todd and Lydia to have horrible painful torture scenes and then go to jail.  I hate them more than any character I've ever hated on this show.

I want to know if Walt is going to save Jesse.  He knows that his stuff is still out there after the Grey Matters interview.  I want Walt to save Jesse and Jesse to kill Walt, take Walt's money and Brock and RUN.
  • I totally cried when Jesse escaped and then was caught.

Todd is such a creepy manipulative fuck.  Giving him ice cream, saying good night, shooting that girl with the kid, threatening Skyler in Holly's room.  I don't think it's an affection, I think it's a torture technique.  I really, really hope Jesse lives.

I wish Walt would just turn himself in.  He isn't helping his family by any means.

  • I do want Jesse saved. I don't know by who- maybe Walt. But I do wonder if the DEA/police will ever know the full story- who was killed, who did what, etc.? Will they see the DVD Jesse made with Gomez and Hank? Will Lydia and Todd get it in the end? Like you, I hate them. Hate them and I hope they die a slow, painful death.

I read a lot about how people hated Skylar in the earlier seasons, but these past few episodes she's been a much more likeable character.

I'm also wondering if they ever find Hank/Gomez and close that bit for Marie. I want to see a minerals themed funeral.
  • A friend and I were discussing who on the show we ever felt any real sympathy/empathy for.

For me, it was Hank and Jesse. I loved that moment they re-showed when Jesse was kung-fu fighting outside the RV.  People forget that Jesse was a young kid when this all got started and still is.  And when he's confronted with decisions, he always tries to make the "right" one and get out.  Walt just keeps pulling him back in.

I felt like Hank, though obsessed with his career, was always the most straight shooting character on the show.  I cried when he was shot.

Also, IDK why anyone finds Walt a sympathetic character.  Any sympathy should've been destroyed after that amazing scene where Walt/Heisenberg says all he has left is his empire.  And the crazy call to Skyler.  That wasn't all a lie, some of that was from genuine anger,
  • As much as I hate Walt right now and the monster he's become, it's torture when glimpses of old Walt peak through and I want him to live.  At the same time, I want him to die alone in that cabin.  We already know that doesn't happen though.

The last two episodes were where I actually felt bad for Skylar, I hadn't really liked her before then.

They have to find Hank/Gomez, for Marie's sake.  I hope the minerals are purple.

I don't think it's possible for there to be a happy ending.

  • I think my difference is that old Walt wasn't a noble person either.  Old Walt came up with all of this stuff and the more he got away with, the more he wanted to get away with.  He didn't have some sort of psychotic break and become Heisenberg.  He could've just taken the money for his treatment that Grey Matters offered up.  None of this would've ever happened to him.

I hope they find Hank too.  I might not like Marie, but I think they really loved each other.  The way they clung together when the truth was revealed made me happy.

I at least respect Skylar now.  Before, I just kept thinking, Well, greed will get you everywhere, won't it?

I don't think there's a happy ending in store either.
