Cat S&P Wedding Cake Toppers

So I found and bought these adorable antique kissing cat salt and pepper shakers that I want to put on my wedding cake (which, thanks to budget issues, will just be a small 1 tiered cake for the bride, groom, & bridal party). But I showed them to my mom and she kinda flipped. Started going on and on about how they didn't fit the color scheme (burnt orange & royal blue) and why couldn't I just use pieces of fruit that matched the colors instead. The cats are white and bluish gray and will be wearing a mini veil and a top hat. Am I crazy for liking this or does this actually sound like a good idea?

Why are you not serving all your guests the cake?

Everyone needs cake. Get a sheet cake from a grocery store and serve it. Cheap but still yummy. 

Can't say much of anything about the "topper" without a picture, but it sounds not my style. But if you can't stand up to mom about what goes on your cake, you've got bigger issues. What does your fiance think?

If your FI likes the Cats, go with the cats. Make it a joint decision. If your FI doesn't like them, try to find something you both like and use that. Your cake topper doesn't have to match anything else, it's just a cake topper.

I think the cat toppers are fine.

If your cake is just for the bridal party, what are you going to feed your guests? Can you get a sheet cake from Costco? They are fairly cheap and can feed a lot of people.

I think those are really cute and if you are putting a veil and top hat on them they are going to even cuter. I think the cake topper is definitely one of the things that you and your FI should decide on alone. It doesn't affect anyone else and it's a way to input some of your personality.

I would stick with your plan.  As long as you and FI like the toppers who cares!

Those are cute!  And I don't think it matters if they match the theme of the wedding or not.

Update: my mom ended up making a little veil and top hat for my kitties and has now decided she likes them, still thinks I'm crazy for having cats on my wedding cake, but better than nothing.

So glad I read this, I never thought of using salt and pepper shakers. The cats are ADORABLE

Those are adorable.  Our cake topper is going to look like this...but with 3 cats instead of the dog.  They're our babies and I want to "include" them somehow and when I saw this topper, I knew it was exactly what I wanted.  She makes them to look exactly like your pets and makes the people look like you and your fiance.  You send her the pics and then you just tell her what your hair and dress will look like.  I'm just glad that everyone else I've shown so far has loved it too. )
