XP: Has anyone made their own fascinator?

I tried a headband style fascinator on when I tried my dress on and loved it. However, I didn't want to spend $100 on it because it seems cheaply made and I thought I could either buy one online or make one for a lot less. I bought a hair clip that I love and would like to disassemble and just use the jewel part, add it to a thin headband and add tulle to make a fascinator. I love the look of the fascinator and the clip I bought is pretty heavy (my hair is very fine and thin) so I think it would work better but I'm not sure how to make it or if I even can. I also want to wear my hair down and it doesn't curl easily so a headband style fascinator would be ideal. Has anyone ever made their own or know of a site that has inexpensive ones? I would be willing to give up on the clip and go with one purchased online if I could find a good deal. TIA!

Re: XP: Has anyone made their own fascinator?

  • I made my own fascinator, but it was a clip style, not a headband. For about $15 I bought a hair clip, a big jeweled button, tulle, and some feathers, and sewed it all together. It was not hard. Give it a go, worst comes to worst you waste a few bucks. I think it is worth it because it is more likely it will come out fine and you save yourself $100.

  • Ya it's really not hard to make and so much cheaper to make it yourself not to mention it feels like a big achievement! My only advice is use a clear glue instead of hot glue such as 6000 because it's flexible and you don't see any ugly yellow glue mark.

Great advice, can I get 6000 glue at a craft store?

  • Yup most craft store carries them.

Only problem I have with the E-6000 is the wide tip but her video helps on how to use it.

  • Go for it and share pics! I made mine with a clip from AC Moore, a silk flower, pearls, and a bunch of hot glue (though I do recommend E6000 too.)

Lots of tutorials online! For example: http://www.craftstylish.com/item/48343/how-to-make-a-floral-fascinator
