How many days off before wedding?

So, my friend's wedding is this Saturday and I just found out she's only taking Friday off before the wedding from work. This got me thinking, what are other brides doing/did? I was thinking about taking the week off before as well. Not necessarily to do wedding stuff, but wedding stuff and relax. I live 8 hrs away so thought it would be good if I was there and had some down time to do last minute make up runs, hair runs, get my nails/eyebrows done.. but now I'm wondering if that's too much time off before the wedding? I can swing it with work, so that's not an issue.

We're getting married on a Saturday and it's local.  So I'm taking off Thursday and Friday.  Thursday we're able to drop all of our stuff needed for the wedding to the venue.  The rest of Thursday I'll be running around and packing last minute wedding stuff.  Friday I'll check into the hotel.  Get settled and then go for a mani/pedi and just try to relax.

FSIL only took off the day before.  But their mom works for the school system so she did all of the running around for them on Thursday.

ETA: I plan on taking 2 weeks off after the wedding so I'll be saving my time off for that :)

Yeah, my FI and I both work for a school system. He has the summers off, so not an issue with him at all. I don't though because I work in the central office. That being said though, I'm saving my vacation days like mad so I can do our HM for a week and a week at home. We're not going on our HM til the week after though.

I took Thursday afternoon and Friday off before our wedding.  We got married locally and I was a newer employee so I didn't have much leave and needed as much as possible to take off for our HM.

I think taking an entire week off is a bit much.  Maybe leave Wednesday afternoon and just take off Thursday and Friday?  I think if I took a week off before my wedding I would have gone crazy.  Work gave me something to do instead of worrying about little details that really didn't matter.

Edit:  because my brain is not working today

  • I'm not currently working, but our wedding is this Saturday and FI is taking Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday off. We have almost all out of town guests, though, and feel like we should be available to visit with them.

That's what I'm starting to wonder if I'll make myself crazy with having a week off :/ then again, all I do at work is basically plan my wedding. I'm just sitting here twiddling my thumbs now about things and waiting til money is built up to buy everything. and still nine months to go....so. I think it will be a rather planned out wedding..whoops.

When are your OOT guests coming in town? All of FI's family and friends are out of town, but only by like 2-3 hours. Some further though. I didn't think about them coming in early too...hmm

  • We got married on a Monday (DW), but we left Wed night to fly out.  We wanted an extra day to get our license (we got it Thurs, Fri was our back up in case of flight problems).  Can't get the license on weekends and we weren't leaving it till the Mon morning.  I think it was actually a state holiday, so we couldn't have done it anyway Mon.

If we had stayed here, I don't think I would have taken any time off, but I only get 2 personal days per year, so it's hard to use them without good reason

  • I'm not sure yet, but thankfully I have a flexible boss who will let me take time off that week without advance notice. I'll likely take Thursday-Monday off. I may take more time if need be to help my aunts and mom with food prep (they are catering).

  • I took off a week prior to each wedding (no PPDs- just married twice!). The biggest difference between the two is my second was a DW, so we left for Australia on a Friday, arrived on a Sunday, then spent 5 days at a resort relaxing prior to our wedding day. We didn't want to be jet lagged for the wedding.

We have some coming in Wednesday, some Thursday, some Friday. So, we're pretty much just expecting our house to be a revolving door of people, lol.
  • Our ceremony is on a Friday, so I'm taking Thursday and Friday off. I'm saving the rest of my time for our honeymoon, which I think is going to be over a week.
  • We got married on a Saturday. It was about 2.5 hours from where we live. We took Thursday and Friday off. Great decision!

  • I took a half day on Thursday and Friday off. I was married locally on Saturday. It was plenty of time for me.

  • I'm getting married on a Saturday and only taking Friday off. I considered taking Thursday off as well, but with a New Years cruise that runs into '14, the week long honeymoon, two weddings (and two bachelorette parties) in which I'm a BM/MOH, and then football season, I really needed to conserve vacation time.
  • I'm planning from a distance (living in MN, getting married in OR) so I'd like to get there well ahead of time to get last minute things organized. Probably around 5 days early. But I'm a student and he's a teacher and the wedding's in the summer so we can get away with that. We will probably drive out there so we'll get moving around a week beforehand probably.

  • Getting married on a Saturday, taking Thurs and Fri off before the wedding.  That said, I'm also off the 2 weeks after the wedding for the 10 day honeymoon and a few days of recovery.
  • We are getting married on a Saturday and I only plan on taking Friday off before the wedding then the week after for our HM.

We aren't doing a lot of DIY so I'm not sure what I would do with two or more days off.  I work for a pretty flexible boss so I will probably be able to leave work early on the Thursday...

  • I got married on a Sunday, and I worked the whole week before. People were surprised when I came in on Friday - but I had nothing else to do, I would have just been bored sitting at home (especially since I didn't have paid time off at that time!). We didn't really have any out of town guests, though, so if you want to visit with them that does make sense to take time off.

  • Taking Thursday and Friday for a Saturday wedding (I want to spend time with OOT guests) and two weeks off after the wedding for my honeymoon.
  • We had a Friday wedding and I took off Wed & Thurs.  One day was to clean the house, the other was for running errands.  I had to drop everything off at the reception venue the Monday before my wedding, so there wasn't really any last minute things I needed to do other than mani/pedi, picking up my dress, getting my e-ring cleaned, and some grocery shopping for getting ready the next day.  If I didn't need to clean the house good, I had my getting ready pics there, I would only have taken Thursday off.  H only took off Friday, but he was a part time employee at the time and had little PTO.

I am taking off the Thursday and Friday before our Saturday wedding.  That's when our family starts arriving.

ETA:  I'm self employed/contractor  so it's not an issue so long as I only miss one Monday, which is our regular, long docket day.   I'm also taking the full week after the wedding off for our honeymoon.  We get back on a Saturday.  Then I'll have Sunday and Monday to relax at home because November 11 is a government holiday and the courts will be closed.

  • We got married on a Saturday. I was initially only planning on taking Friday off, but my boss sent me home early on Wednesday and told me not to come in on Thursday. It was great because I did have some last minute things to do, and the two days gave me enough time to do them without going crazy. I didn't exactly do much work on the Monday or Tuesday of that week, but it was nice to be out of the house with some distractions.
  • Our wedding is on Sunday and I'm planning on taking off the Wednesday afternoon through Friday before.  The wedding party starts getting here Thursday evening and there will be some last-minute things to do.

  • I will probably take a day or two just to get everything done that I might need to and then to just take a breather.

I took off Thursday and Friday for a Saturday wedding.  In the end, all I really needed was Friday.
  • since we are business owners it was easier to manipulate the schedule the week before the wedding and my husbands brother was in town so he helped at the shop so I was able to have flexibility in getting stuff done-- I think I worked half days M/T and my husband did a half day tues/wed so we were able to get the last minute things done, relax and hang out with friends/family that were in town for the wedding. I had Wednesday off completely and our wedding was Friday so Thursday was off to our wedding city (1.5 hrs from us) for the rehearsal etc.  We took the Mon/Tues after the wedding as well so we were able to do a "mini moon" before getting back to work.

  • I had three work days off but that's because I'm a college student and finals ended the previous week.  I had five days off including the weekend.
  • I think my sister took a week off before hers, but I can't remember what she did with all that time. My best friend's wedding was the day after a public holiday, so she didn't take any time off, just did what she needed to get done on the holiday.

I haven't given much thought to what I'll do. I guess it'll depend on how much time off my boss is willing to give me, and how long a honeymoon FI is planning.

  • Got married locally on a Saturday - I took Thursday and Friday off. Husband took Wed, Thursday and Friday off. Most of our family came in on Thursday and I had a few appointments on Thursday, so we were actually busier that day than on Friday.
