Disney Themed Wedding?

I'll be 23 when I get married and besides my family and his family, no one at the wedding will be above the age of 26. I love disney and I was thinking of having a disney themed wedding but not to the extreme. Like my bridesmaids will have regular dresses on. It's more like a ball. A Cinderella type wedding (my color is blue) with small hints of disney. Like cocktail hour we could play disney songs and I was thinking about having each table a different disney movie (just the centerpiece, all the plates and napkins will be the same color) i want a ball gown so that it matches the princess/disney theme. And I want a kids table with maybe sum disney toys and disney coloring books.

How can I do this so its not tacky but more elegant/tasteful?

Re: Disney Themed Wedding?

  • I absolutely LOVE Disney. It's your big day, so if that's something you are really inspired by, go for it! I think doing the centerpieces as different Disney movies keep things interesting and not boring. JMO though. I am a big Disney fan, however FI is not as much, so I wouldn't see that working out very well. haha. :)

BTW: Did you ever see that article on Yahoo! about the couple who had an all out Little Mermaid themed wedding? Like literally, everything down to the very core. I thought it was different, but I guess unique as you do not see it often at all. At least I didn't.

Alfred Angelo has a line of Disney princess wedding dresses and Disney bridesmaids dresses as well.
I agree that there should be "little touches" that are still elegant.
If you wanted to have different tables as different movies, a rose in a glass container thing would work for Beauty and the Beast, a glass slipper or carriage for Cinderella, maybe a tea set for Alice in Wonderland, vase of red delicious apples for Snow White, etc.
Also, here are some Disney figurines that might work for a cake topper or something: http://www.lenox.com/figurines/disney?N=1447+4294966178

  • Oh gosh! Yeah, that second picture might be a bit overboard. I like the idea of still having a Disney theme, but more subtle, elegant and simple. Not a children's birthday party with matching table cloths, napkins and plates kind of thing. Not that you were going for that look though haha. I liked @doeydo's idea for centerpieces. That's kind of what I had in mind for decorating tables. I think it adds a nice touch and isn't tacky at all.

I appreciate having a "young crowd", but I honestly stopped watching Disney movies at like age 15.

If the majority of your friends are the 19-23 y/o crowd, I wouldn't think they'd be just blown away by Disney things. Certainly there are exceptions to the rule.

My vote is to avoid a theme and keep things subtle.

  • I think if you keep it subtle like @doeydo's suggestions AND if your FI is on board then things like that are fine, but as a guest I'd be thrown if a wedding screamed Disney.

She didn't do any other disney references, but one of my friends walked down the aisle to an instrumental of "So this is love" from sleeping beauty, which I thought was a nice understated touch.

But, it's Disney.  Those movies never get old.

  • I'm getting married in November, and we are doing a Snow White themed wedding. We are keeping it elegant, not cartoony. We used the Snow White invites from Michael's (The Fairest of Them All). We are using red, yellow and blue for the colors, but nothing over the top. The bridesmaids are in yellow dresses with gold shoes and blue flowers. The guys have blue ties with yellow buttonires. My dress has red lacing for the corset and I'm carrying a red rose bouquet with one crab apple in it. For the reception decorations we are going with an enchanted forest theme. The centerpieces are lanterns (for the dwarves) and baskets full of apples. I don't think it matters what the ages of your guests are. Disney is amazing no matter what. Lol. Also, it is your wedding. If you and your FH want to do a Disney wedding, go for it! You can definitely pull it off without seeming childish. :)
  • I wish I was doing Disney themed! I went to Disneyland this summer and there were so many awesome bridal and wedding themed gifts and things to buy! Too cute. My mom kept pointing out everything there and would love the idea of Disney themed.

My FI has said he does not care what happens to the wedding and trusts me to plan it, but I know he would be thrown off from the Disney themed wedding if I made one. I'm planning on looking at some Alfred Angelo's wedding dresses, but that's the extent of my Disney theme wish.

My favorite movie is Rapunzel. Every time it comes on a TV channel, I stop and watch it every single time :)
