I cashed in a ton of points I had earned from shopkick and a survey site that gives me points for two $25 Macy's GC's.  I ordered DefConn 4 shirts, 3 pairs of pants, 2 pairs of PJ's, and hoodies for both kids for $40 shipped on top of the GC's.  I made DefConn do a fashion show to make sure it all fit.  He did not appreciate it at all.  :)

I ordered our friends some coffee.  :)  I found an organic fair trade coffee package with 4 kinds of coffee.  My sister's friend has her bakery and website that she runs out of the Chicago area.  I think I'm going to order some of her cookies to send them next week.

I'm ready for the weekend. Since we were OOT last week, it feels like we haven't had a weekend in 2 weeks.

I'm trying to figure out how to make a mock-up of DefConn's costume before I actually make it so I can get the measurements right.  I'd welcome any suggestions from craftier people than me.  Make it easy though...I'm really the type of person that cannot craft her way out of a paper bag.  If this is a bust, we'll be going with a store-bought costume.

Side-note:  SIL and I went shopping this weekend and went to build-a-bear and they had a Thor costume.  DefConn has a build-a-bear monkey.  I was thisclose to getting the costume for the monkey, but it was $16 and I just could not justify it.

Re: Good morning

  • Morning.  DH is taking tomorrow off.  He has big plans- zoo, Costco, Target, pack, make some food, clean the litter box.  I doubt much of it happens, but he can have at it.

Our house is full of snot and hot air.  The a/c is shot and all of us have snotty noses.  Guess I know where outage money is going.

  • Tell me more about the costume, like what kinds of pieces you are making.

I use clothes the girls wear now as patterns.  For example, to make a bodice of a dress, I fold a shirt in half the long way and put it on top of the folded fabric and cut it out.  I always allow an extra inch or two when I make anything, but since it can be cold here for Halloween, I allow even more so they can wear clothes underneath.

  • I looked at both of those sites when I was researching.

I'm actually going to make him a chestplate out of thin foam.  I have an idea in my head on how I want to make it. I found what I need at Hobby Lobby last week.  Maybe I'll just buy enough to make 2 just in case and return stuff if it doesn't get used.
  • I actually just started an email to "beth" but I accidentally typed "betch" and had a good laugh and then fixed it.  With a bit of sads.

I have fckitall syndrome this week.  I can hardly even PRETEND to work.  I have stuff to do.  But I don't wanna!!!!

This is where I got the idea to use the foam to make it.   I've made a very crude drawing of what I want it to look like, with LOTS of notes.  If the idea actually makes it completion, I may share my terrible drawings.  ;)

This is me.  So bad.  And I have a trillionty things to do.
  • foam is awesome and easy to work with.
I cant wait to see it done :)
  • I am so fucking sick of being pg.  And people asking why I'm still at work at 39 weeks and that I'm a hero for even going.  Really?  It's called I want as much paid maternity leave as possible, not sitting around my house going crazy waiting for shit to happen.

  • I think I'm getting sick. I have a low fever this morning and I'm congested. This is on top of my normal misery so it's a real treat. I'd like to take the day off but that's not happening. Doctors appointment today with ultrasound so I get to see the baby.

I know!  This made me crazy when I was pregnant.  (Although, I did end up taking 2 days off before my scheduled induction, but that's because I wasn't sleeping at all and couldn't safely drive myself to work.)
  • I think if this kid doesn't show up on his own soon, then next Friday, my due date, is going to by my last day.  Luckily, I can have DH drive me to the train station if I'm unable to drive and stay awake, lol.

  • I started fudging my due date.  Nobody really paid attention and I was sick of the looks.  I also called off one day just because I didn't want to walk a flight of steps just to pee.
  • Ugh, my options are walk a block round-trip to pee or go up a flight of stairs to a closer bathroom.

Red raspberry leaf tea/supplement and oil of evening primrose in your routine yet?

This exactly. I took it to the extreme and waited too long to get to the hospital. Oops.

I second the red raspberry tea. Also, walking, bouncing on the stability ball and sex.

I did all of these during the 24 hours before L was born.

  • OMG, we tried to have sex a week ago (for these purposes exactly) and it hurt so bad.  The pressure down there is insane, I can barely sit down.  I haven't heard of the Red raspberry leaf tea/supplement and oil of evening primrose.  I wonder if they have that shit at Target.  I have a ball though, walking is very difficult.

  • Yikes.

I got my Red Raspberry Leaf Tea at The Vitamin Shoppe. I drank it iced with some honey for about 5 days prior to having him. It is supposed to help shorten the second phase of labor. I didn't try the oil of evening primrose.

  • The evening primrose is a natural prostaglandin, can help with softening/thinning if the cervix. You can take it orally or if you get desperate vaginally.
  • I'm 50% effaced already, do you think the evening primrose would be necessary?  I'm just not dilated at all.

  • Can't hurt @alikatt17, the prostagandins can help the whole process along.
  • I found the primrose at Target, but not the tea.  I'm sure there's got to be a vitamin place nearby we can check out.  I'll start the primrose tonight, I was too nervous to try it before going to work today. Thanks!
