Budget Honeymoon in the USA late January/early Feb

Hi!
We are getting married in January and we don't have much money left for a honeymoon. I would love for a little getaway after the wedding stress but I am so stuck trying to find something nice in our budget. We are looking for something
WITHIN the US ( most important #1) for under 2000 including airfare (most important #2). Open to non traditional honeymoons but something thats still romantic would be ideal.3-4 nights, can't request much more time off. We are LA locals, and aren't complete against a honeymoon in our home state but we've both been up and down the coast numerous times and would prefer something a bit unique. We are thinking of New Orleans but so far fiance isn't impressed with the hotels (i know.. i know... hes not a huge fan of the old world/vintage atmosphere they seem to have... ) so any other suggestions please please please!
Thanks!

Re: Budget Honeymoon in the USA late January/early Feb

  • Florida

    Las Vegas

    Smokey Mountains

  • if you're stuck on New Orleans (which is very affordable) check out the Renaissance Pere Marquette hotel.  it's very modern, so it's not old-world-feel-y, and i've been there several times in February and it's been quite affordable.  Renaissance is a Marriott brand.  It is directly across Canal St from Bourbon St and also close to the Casino and most of the other downtown touristy stuff.
  • Do you want to go somewhere where you can go out and about all day and see touristy things? Somewhere where you'll barely leave the hotel/resort? Somewhere where you can do something active (like skiing)? If you could give us a better sense of what kind of honeymoon you'd like to have, you'll probably get better suggestions.

  • The thing is we are open because we know our budget isn't big...... If we can get all inclusive that would be nice.... If we can't that's okay too.
When travel ee like to go out and explore so if its all inclusive there needs to be stuff to see: museums, beaches to explore, downtown areas to shop. We have been lucky to travel a lot together and we tend to stray from scheduled pre planned tours. Our goal wherever we go is to be mistaken for locals. Neither of us are super outdoorys so its safe to say no camping adventures-not that i think anyone would want to in north america in January...
  • How about Key West. There's a ton of museums, shops, eateries, beaches (not that great but not bad), snorkeling...etc. It is pricy but I'm sure it can be done on your budget.
We've been three times and can't wait to go back again. I have pics and reviews in the link above my siggy pic.
  • I would do Key West or San Marco Island, FL.  For only 3-4 nights you should easily be able to be under $2K.  Also, I just got married 2 weeks ago today and we leave on our honeymoon in another week and a half.  It was the best idea ever to wait and give us a break in between.  Would waiting a bit help you financially or be able to take more time off?  I was able to already get all my thank you notes done, gifts put away, and my life back to normal so I can truly enjoy our honeymoon.
  • Disney? Yes, it actually can be romantic and at that time of year, you wouldn't have as many families there since most kids would be in school, so not as crowded.
  • Sanibel Island, FL (off the coast of Ft. Meyers) may work.  Beautiful island, shell covered beaches, very "old Florida" and quiet.  Not a big party scene and most of the accommodations on the island are condos.
