Torn between venues!

We are having a really hard time picking between 4 venues. it doesn't help that my fiancé & I really don't have the same style, so we don't always like the same things. And none of the venues have every single thing we want. Can you help?

Park Avenue Club: more his style than mine - not the over-the-top cocktail hour & Viennese I want - beautiful grounds - significantly more expensive than the others (but we are trying to negotiate) - I think we would need uplighting in the tent which adds $$$

Richfield Regency: hate the inside ceremony area so we would be using Verona Park, which adds a headache. Excellent cocktail hour & Viennese - the menu and the location are the biggest selling points. The grand ballroom is one of the only places we saw that satisfied both our styles, but I am concerned about the lack of windows. Great price.

Knoll Country Club East - even better price than Richfield, nice grounds, extensive menu. We would get uplighting which might cancel out the price difference. I am afraid the food won't be amazing.

Old Tappan Manor - beautiful space that we both like, nice grounds but no outdoor ceremony. Menu looks great. Kind of far from us. More expensive than Knoll & Richfield but not by much.

Re: Torn between venues!

  • I went to a wedding at the knoll country club. I loved it all!
  • I've never been to the Knoll East, but we seriously considered the Knoll West for our wedding venue.  Louise was wonderful, but it was too big of a space for the number of guests we're having.  My parents attended a wedding at Knoll West years ago (around when it was remodeled), and my mom said the service was great but the food was just okay. I've heard great things about the overall reception experience there from other friends, but mixed reviews on the food.

My family has attended various events at the Richfield over the years, including an annual gala.  My parents love the place (and their viennese). I attended a cocktail reception that was catered by them, and there was a ton of food.  Their food is plentiful and never seems to run out.

  • My fiance and I were considering the Park Avenue Club. We were working with Inez before we made a decision on another place - I think you'd get outstanding service there and the food would be incredible. I agree though, the tented reception area would need some decorating to make it really come alive.
  • With almost everything else being relatively equal, pick the one with the lowest overall costs
  • I am getting married at the Park Avenue Club next month (eek) and also use the club for work. It is a great place -- service and food are SUPERB. To us, this was most important. We did not want a cookie cutter wedding factory and loved both the history/philanthropic tie of the club and also their commitment to food and service. I wouldn't say that it is not an over-the-top cocktail hour as there is a TON of food. The location is good and there are good hotels nearby.

I don't have experience with any of the other venues, but I hope that helps!
  • Just wanted to update that we booked at Knoll Country Club East for May 17, 2014! We ruled out Old Tappan for the distance from where we live, Park Avenue because even after negotiating, the price was still a lot higher, and Richfield due to the lack or outdoor ceremony space.

Knoll gave us an insane deal and so far they have been great to work with. I am really excited. My fiancé is just excited to not have to look at more venues LOL.
