Working on the Registry...

I just started our registry, and it really makes it all so real. My FI and I have been in a LDR for the last two years and I'm so excited to be shopping for the things that'll be in the home we share! Sorry, minor sappy moment, I'm wondering if its a no-no to put bicycles on the registry...My FI and I would love to have them, but I don't want our friends and family to think we're being ridiculous...

Personally, I wouldnt. I dont know if it is bad etiquette wise, but I would roll my eyes if I saw it on a friends registry. People will give you cash. I would use that cash for the bikes.

FI and I are long distance too and I get all excited thinking about furnishing a house together. I'm right there with you!

I personally wouldn't register for a bike since that's more of a personal/hobby item and not something that will help you establish your home. The people that know you well could get bikes for you or you could just use any cash you receive toward a bike.

I wouldn't see a problem with it, expect that most adult bikes are $200+, and that's a lot for a registry item. I second the advice of putting any money you get toward the bikes.

I don't know if there's a strict etiquette rule there, but on ours, I did add some slightly off-kilter items that I knew the groom would appreciate, including some tools, games, and sporting equipment. (He actually wants bicycles too, although I haven't included them on the list.) But that's because our crowd will enjoy seeing things we like to do together, and because I don't want him to feel left out. I did skip the honeymoon registries though.

I would side eye bicycles.

Etiquette doesn't prohibit it that I know of, but I would not put a really big-ticket item like a bicycle on a registry.

No on the bikes (even if they're inexpensive).

I know how registering makes it feel real.
The suggestions about using cash for the bikes might be best. My fiance wanted to put a couch on our registry but we'll probably just use cash for that.

We put on some games. And I'm probably going to put on some DVD's that I want. Unless I ask for those for my birthday/Christmas.
