Escort and Place Cards?

Are escort cards and Place cards at each seat really necessary? Our wedding is not terribly formal, and I was just planning on doing escort cards to assign each guest to a table. Does everyone need a place card too? Thanks!!

Re: Escort and Place Cards?

  • I've never seen specific seating cards, just table assignments.
  • Place cards are most definitely not necessary. Just write out an escort card for each guest (or at least each couple/family) with a table number on it.

    Don't assign seats.

  • We just did a seating chart display, listing which table every guest was at and then it was up to them to find the table and pick whatever seat they wanted at that specific table.
  • Don't assign seats, just tables.

With assigned tables, you have two options:  You can do escort cards, in which you designate on each card the table that so-and-so is seated at, or a seating chart.  And of course, you can do both (which can be very helpful to guests in finding their tables).

If your venue needs to know on a card who is to be served which meal, this can go on an escort card.
  • Check to see what your venue needs. Ours wants assigned seating to help manage meals with food allergies and where ] to pour alcohol vs. non-alcoholic beverages for the toasting.
