Booking Plane Ticket: Which last name?

We are getting married at the end of March, and my fiance just booked our honeymoon for the middle of May. He booked my plane ticket with maiden name, not thinking about it. Should I change it to my married name? I plan to change my name shortly after the wedding, just not sure how long it will take and whether it will be an issue.

Re: Booking Plane Ticket: Which last name?

  • Leave it in maiden.

You can still change things over to your married name EXCEPT whatever form of ID you are using for travel ie: passport if traveling out of US or drivers license if traveling in the US.

  • Definitely leave it in Maiden... this can cause major issues if not.
  • I would leave it in your maiden name.  You MAY have enough time to get everything changed, but I would be stressed.

Like @monkeygirl18 suggested you can start changing your name on other things.

  • Leave it as your maiden and just change your name once you are back.  It really isn't a big deal.

Leave it in your maiden name.  You never know what could happen to delay the processing.  If you need a passport, just look at the government shutdown!

There was a typo on my friend's marriage license.  As a result she could not change her name on her ID or with Social Security until she got it straightened out.  It took her several months because it meant taking time off of work to go deal with the various government offices involved.

  • As others have said, just leave it. I got married 3 1/2 weeks ago and we leave for our honeymoon tomorrow (eek!!!).  I've only changed mine on Facebook and I've started going by it at work.  Otherwise, I'm still my maiden name until after the honeymoon.
  • Agree, you should leave it. Also, don't change over your other ID yet either. The reason is, if you are asked for a second form of ID (i.e. credit card), it won't match your passport which could cause problems.  Also, you want your name on your passport to be the same as the name on your travel insurance in case you need to use it!

  • Ditto PPs.  It took about a month to even receive a copy of my marriage license, so I wouldn't want to have to stress over trying to rush to get SS and DMV changed before your HM.  You can still change with SS before you go, but just wait on your ID/passport until you get back.
  • leave it as he booked it. change your IDs when you get back.

  • Great question! And good answers. I was wondering this too!
