As you may have seen on FB yesterday, Baby Oscar graced us with his presence!
We had induction scheduled for 5pm on Monday night. Went in, had cytotech inserted by 6:15, second dosage at 10:15, no dilation whatsoever. I started having contractions around midnight but nothing unbearable. I was completely unable to sleep because they gave me some pain medication that made me throw up my ambien. the painkillers didnt do a thing. mBy 3:30, they were awful and coming one on top of the other. My nurse (who was hysterical and super awesome) got me started on my first liter of fluids and let anesthesia know I wanted my epi, I was only at 2. It was a really long hour and a half before it was placed- DH slept through it all. He did try to get up and comfort me but I couldn't stop my breathing to tell him to stop effing touching me because it was irritating as hell.
After my epi was placed (and heaven on earth began), I got to a whopping 3cm. And never got any further. They were going to break my water at 9am but it had broken on its own after the epi, i just didnt notice it. Baby's heart rate kept going up and down so they rotated me from side to side, it didn't help.
By noon, the nurse said she wanted to prepare me that the dr was coming in and likely going to suggest a c-section because of the distress. I started crying so hard, feeling like it was my fault for allowing them to induce me only 3 days past, that I should have waited for labor to start naturally. My doctor came in and said we needed to do a c-section before the baby became in real distress and it became an emergency.
Five minutes after surgery started, Oscar was born with his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck THREE times and his fist out for fist pumps. He was also in a strange position and there was no safe way for him to be born vaginally. it was never going to happen. mHe cried and then started to turn blue, he stopped crying. They were able to get him to breathe again but whisked him off to the NICU. I got to give him a kiss but wasn't able to hold him, do skin to skin, or nurse as we were promised. i sent DH to be with him and luckily my mom was able to get there and be with me in recovery. It was the longest 3 hours of my life until I was able to hold him.
He's doing great now, we're so happy. He's beautiful. He's 8lb, 5oz and 22.5" long. He has the biggest newborn feet I've ever seen! Bright blue eyes and dark blonde hair that feels like velvet.
Nursing has been an issue because he's so tried from yesterday's events. We finally got him to nurse for 20 minutes this morning with lactation's help. He's tongue-tied like his daddy so we're going to have an ENT see him to see if we need it snipped.
Right now, we're snuggling in bed. He's perfect, we absolutely love him.
