Copying off of bubbles... ask away!

So, I thought Bubbles/Alicia had a great idea when posting a thread opening herself up to questions and thought I should do the same. I am at work, so I may not get to answer all the questions immediately, but I will get to it, I promise!!!

Here's a lil blurb to get ya started.

My name is Katie, I am 32 years old. I am from Louisiana and love it. I am a high school English teacher. I have one daughter who is 9. My fiance is Jesse and he works in the engineering industry. We have been engaged since July 27 and we are getting married March 1. I met him when he sold me carpet! I am a die-hard LSU fan not only because I am from South Louisiana, but also because I graduated from there. We have one dog, Marley. We live together and have since May. .... Ok, can't think of anything else. I know people think I'm a bitch, or rude, or whatever.... and I generally don't care what other people think of me. I respect others' opinions and choose not to let it bother me. Ok, go!

Re: Copying off of bubbles... ask away!

  • Hi. Why do people think you're a bitch or rude? I honestly don't remember you. What went on?

  • What's your favorite book to teach? Least favorite?

What traits does your daughter get from you?

Tell me some features of your dream house.

What drew you to your FI?

Because I posted on another section of the board that I was disappointed in my MOHs for lack of participation in my wedding (to make the long story short), and I had posted that my BMs will have the same hair-do at my wedding.

My favorite book to teach is HANDS DOWN Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. OMG, love love love it!!! Least favorite, I no longer teach it because it's awful, lol, was Great Expectations.

What does my daughter NOT get from me, lol. Ok, but to answer your question: Her hair, smile, eyes, attitude, her love of dance. She gets a lot of her personality from me, as her father says. But she does look more like him.

My dream house has to have a pool. Period. It's hot as hell in Louisiana. It would have the biggest closet ever and a big bath tub. I'd also like a large kitchen with a restaurant grade stove. Otherwise, I'm not that picky. Whatever makes the fiance/future hubby happy.

Well, at first, his looks drew me to him. I thought he was so cute when he introduced himself to me and sold me that damn overpriced carpet, lol. But when he came to my house to measure the rooms for carpet, he talked to my daughter like she was a person, not some nuisance, not like a baby, not like he was trying to impress her mother, but because she was a person. I loved that about him. As time went on and we started dating, I saw that he is genuinely a good person. He always tries to do the right thing and I so admire him for his aspirations. Plus, he had a decent job and didn't live at home.

    Do you like to travel?

What are your favorite vacation places?

I do love to travel, and unfortunately haven't been to very many places. I really enjoy tropical places. I've been to Paris, France when I was in high school and I'd like to go back and enjoy it as an adult.

You pronounce her name just like it is spelled: Bree-Anna, lol. Definitely not "Bree-ahhhna." She will correct people when they say it wrong, lol.

Yes. I'll upload it in just  one sec!

Aaaaaaaaaand the next logical question is...

    What are your tats of?
  • Oooooh your ring is gorgeous.

And yes, I'm a "Bri-AHna." I twitch when people call me Bri-ANNA. It just sounds harsh, in my opinion. I'll just call your daughter "Bre," is that acceptable?? :)

Ok, I just C&Pd from the inked post in chit chat....

My first tattoo is a ladybug. I got it on a dare because my ex-husband (we were married at the time) told me I'm too chicken-shit to get one. Well, I did it, lol. It's on my hip/pelvis area. I was afraid my mom would see it (even though I was 23!) so I put it there. I still don't think she knows about that one, lol. My second tattoo is a Magnolia blossom between my shoulder blades on my back. I got that one to symbolize home. I was living in Georgia at the time because that's where my ex-husband was stationed. I was missing home something fierce, so I got something to symbolize my home state. My third tattoo is a purple and gold fleur-de-lis on my right foot. That hurt like a b**ch! I got that one to, again, symbolize my home state as well as my alma mater! GEAUX TIGERS! My fourth tattoo is a a row of large stars that span from my left shoulder all the way to my lower left ribs. Each star represents a member of my family, as they are colored in with each person's birth stone. I still haven't gotten that one completed because it hurt so badly, lol. My fifth tattoo is a red hummingbird with a pink carnation on my upper right outer thigh by my hip. That one represents my grandmother who passed away. She collected hummingbird figurines and always had hummingbird feeders at her house, and then pink flowers were her absolute favorite. My sixth tattoo is a phrase on my left foot that says "It was then that you carried me." This tattoo is the last line of the "Footprints in the Sand" poem. I have been through a lot of difficult things in my life, and through it all, God has walked with me. My seventh tattoo is a swirly red heart on my stomach. Honestly, that one was a mistake, lol. My eighth tattoo is on my wrist. It says "John 14:1-4. All of it" This tattoo is the most meaningful one that I have. I was previously engaged to another man and we were so in love. 6 months before our wedding, he took his own life. He had the Bible verse John 14:1-4 marked in his Bible. "All of it" was something that we told each other when we would say "I love you.... How much?.... All of it." My ninth tattoo is also in memory of him. I saw a spiritual reader who told me that love goes on for infinity. He told me that just because my ex is on the other side, doesn't mean his love for me dissolved, it still exists. In fact, on the other side, there is an infinite amount of love that we cannot comprehend on this side. So my ninth tattoo is on my right rib cage (kinda by my boob, lol) and it's an infinity sign with the word "love."

@BriSox  ummm not Bree, you can call her B, though, lol. That's what I call her! Bree irritates me for some reason, lol.
  • Do you pronounce aunt like: 1) ant (ask in the animal) or 2) auuuuunt

I have a theory this is how the whole Breanna thing gets prounounced.

I say "ant." lol... And I think that can be a regional thing on how "aunt" is pronounced. I've heard it both ways where I live.
  • Very interesting and moving stories behind your tattoos. They sound so pretty and meaningful! I want to get a tattoo at some point, but I truly have no idea how to decide on what I want.

Well, thank you. I never thought I'd have even one tattoo, much less 9. But once I got started, I loved it. lol.
  • I love your stories on your tattoos! I'm getting my first one tomorrow, the word strength on the inside of my left wrist. All the ones I possibly plan to get all have special meanings to. We shall see how many of them I actually do. But the two on my wrists, the one I'm getting tomorrow and another that will go on my right wrist to symbolize my late aunt, are ones I'm definitely getting.
Awww good luck! The wrist definitely hurt the least out of all of them, so I think you'll be fine. And I love your idea!
  • I like your twisty ring. It's not Simon G, is it? It looks a little like mine.
  • Fine, fine, I'll call her B. She's cute, and we ALMOST have the same name, so I can deal :)

I love all your tattoo stories. The one about your ex-FI is so sad and sweet at the same time. I have 12 tattoos - and hopefully another one next weekend! I have lots more planned - I really want a half sleeve at some point.

No. He got it from Jared Galleria. I am not sure if Simon G is a designer for them or not.

OMG, I would love to have a half sleeve, but for some reason, parents don't like teachers with sleeves, lol.
  • @katieg520, I don't remember any posts that made me think you were a bitch.

I love your tattoo stories!  They're great.

    Welcome to the nuthouse.
  • Are you a cool HS teacher or the pain in the ass one?

Also what made you decide to be a HS teacher? That has to be a tough job, bless your heart (in a nice way, I know in the south that's like swearing or something).

I posted it over in Snarky Brides. Take a gander. I may have come across like a bitch. Oh well. Also one of the ladies on TK boards seems to target me as she hates every single response I give, calls me out, tells me to quit spamming the board with bad advice, etc. It's ridiculous really. I'd @ her but I don't know her screen name. Also, people weren't a fan that I said I was going to have all my bridesmaids have the same hair style at my wedding... bc they were paying for their own hair and makeup. Idk... people don't have to like it, but it's pretty customary for wedding parties here to pay for their own hair and makeup and do their hair the way the bride wants it. In fact, in my contract with the hair stylist and makeup artist, it states that she does not take direction or requests from anyone but the bride. So anyway, some people do think I'm a bitch for those things. But I trust my friends that know me in real life who I KNOW would call me out and tell me to chill the fuck out if I got to be a bridezilla, lol.

Well, I think I'm pretty cool. My students love me for whatever reason. I teach at a predominantly African American school, and they tell me there's no way I'm "all white" because I'm too cool. IDK ... to them that means that I'm cool and not uppity, lol. They always come visit me in my class and tell me that they wish all their teachers are like me. But they do complain that I'm "trippin" when I give too much work and tell me we do too much in here, lol.

I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. It was what I've always wanted to do. I've always known... and when I went to high school, my 9th grade English was EXACTLY who I wanted to be like. So that's what made me decide high school. Some days are harder than others. But I've been teaching for 9 years, so I take things with a grain of salt. I try to reach the ones I can, and others, I just realize that other things and people have influenced them more than I could. It is what it is.
  • I like your tattoo stories. I'm really sorry to hear about your former FI (not really sure how to correctly term that, so hope that's not insensitive); what a horrible thing to go through but a meaningful way to carry him with you. Sounds like you have a great relationship now so I'm happy you've found happiness.

You seem nice. And normal. We need that around here.
Thanks. I think I'm a nice person, and I'm nice to those who are nice to me! And yes, I am in a WONDERFUL relationship and I feel so very blessed to have him!
