First Fitting Nerves

So I am getting married December 28th, 2013 in Calgary, AB, Canada.
Can't believe how fast this engagement has gone.

I have my first dress fitting tomorrow morning and I have really starting to get nervous.
I bought the dress back in May ... Haven't gained or lost any weight .. Wanted to try, but stuff got in the way.
Doesn't help that I am starting a student teaching gig on Monday morning too.

I guess I am somehow terrified that it isn't going to fit and I will have to make the dress bigger
(even though I was already very upset with having to get this size in the first place)

Any advice to calm me down?
Here is a pic of the dress too...

Re: First Fitting Nerves

  • Bridal runs small so your street size will be smaller than what size you had to order to your dress in.  Don't worry about it, as long as there wasn't a significant weight change there should be no problem with it fitting.  Even if there was, seamstresses can work wonders.

    1. When it comes bridal gowns, throw concern for size numbers out the window. Your street size and dress size are probably nothing alike. My dress is two sizes bigger than my street size.

    2. It's incredibly unlikely that any dress will fit you perfectly straight from the designer; more than likely it will be let out in one place and taken in at another, etc. Remember, the dress has to fit your body, your body doesn't have to fit the dress. The dress will be made to fit you; don't let a bunch of fabric dictate how you feel about your body. If your dress fits you well, it will look perfect.

    3. You dress is lovely!

  • Don't you hate that they do that in bridal dresses? I'd be a fan if they decided to go in the opposite direction and make bridal sizes smaller than your regular size, lol.

I think you look awesome in that dress!!!
  • You look great in that dress! Take a chill pill. Whatever they need to do to make the dress fit, they'll do --- they're the experts! No woman is shaped exactly the same way. Think about how many cuts and fits of jeans there are! Don't feel bad about whatever alterations they have to make.

  • Thanks everyone.
I don't know why I get so fixated on sizes.  They really should make bridal sizes smaller than regular.  If a girl ever needed a boost it would be shopping for this dress.

    Anyways.
The dress zipped up thank god.
BUT I have some major back cleavage problems.  Ugh.
Still have a little over two months though so maybe I can reduce it.  If not, at least it zips!

Back cleavage is the dress's problem, not yours! It means the dress is not fitting you. What did the seamstress say about it?

  • She said nothing.
    Didn't even bring it up.
I can't afford to have the dress altered besides a hem and a bustle so I have to deal.
