Different style, different shades?

I went shopping with my two bridesmaids for their dresses today. I LOVE how they look, and I think they'll look beautiful at the wedding. The "issue" per se is they are two noticeably different shades of dark blue. My bridesmaid's dress is navy while my MOH's is midnight (a few shades darker than royal but still dark blue). They are two different styles by two different designers, which is why some dresses have navy while others have midnight.

So my question is.. Has anyone, had, had seen photos of, attended, or is having a wedding where the bridesmaids are in two different shades of the wedding color (our "blue" is navy) AND different styles of dress? Please tell me this isn't unheard of! There is so much stress in my family right now, and I'm just so sick of having to fight to get what I love, and I know everyone just wants me to be happy but they are not doing a good job because I'm constantly worried about saying anything wedding-related for fear of more judgment.

Is this really that unheard of for my dresses? Just to clarify, I made the final decision on the dresses at the appointment. I'm thrilled with both of them. Both dresses are strapless by the way.

Thank you!

Re: Different style, different shades?

  • Sounds like you have thrown in the towel just to avoid another argument.  Are you really thrilled with the look, or you like each dress enough individually, so you are going with both to keep the peace? If you can answer that, to yourself and honestly, you will get the answer.
  • I had 5 different shades of blue in 5 different styles on my side at my wedding, and they looked lovely.

  • Mismatched wedding parties are really common right now, and I actually like it better than the more matchy matchy thing. I think both women look great together.
  • I actually really like the different shades/styles of BM dresses. The pick you posted looks nice and they both look really happy in the dresses. I wouldn't change anything.

  • They look lovely and happy. I'd leave it as it is.

Thank you all! You have no idea how much those comments helped my self-esteem right now! My fiancé hasn't gotten the guys's suits made yet (getting them custom-made while in port with his aircraft carrier, don't know where) so I'm trying to see what if he can do his best man in a lighter shade. I love both dresses. My two bridesmaids' jewelry is about the same so far but we haven't found bracelets, shoes or shawls/wraps/boleros/etc yet since it will be a January wedding.

I love both dresses, and all three of us walked into the appointment thinking we were getting one dress. It turned out we got one of my favorites (the right) and found another dress (the left) that flattered better than my other favorite. I am absolutely THRILLED with both dresses on their own AND together. I think they will look beautiful at the wedding, and they will complement my dress nicely.

PS - @doeydo THANK YOU for posting that link; it's exactly what I've been looking for!

My question is, what did the guys wear? Did they wear different outfits like the girls or did they all wear the same thing?
  • Tried the darker on the MOH. Going with both in the darker dress. As much as I love the lighter dress, I don't think it's right for a winter wedding.

    Thanks all!

Since you decided them both in the same dress. Just so you know, your guys can still go with a different color. All my girls will be in viola while the guys will be in malibu blue. Just another option for you!
