Not Engaged Yet

I think the big question is around the corner!

My boyfriend and I bought & moved into our first home this past May. We had been renting a room from family before (for two years) but, being on our own just made more sense. So, we made the decision that we would get "our" first place. Technically, it is his house. But, he made sure that it was going to be OUR home before purchasing it... Now, Fast forward six months; he began talking more about us getting married. He knows I want a kind of long engagement & that I have always had my heart set on 10/10/15 for our wedding date.(It is a Saturday & will be our 5 year dating anniversary). So, I started to wonder why he was asking so many questions, & I really started hoping the BIG question was soon. But, I dismissed the thought until this past week. He asked me to go on his phone to search for something & his browser was on James Allen & in his shopping bag was a princess cut solitaire, just like I want! I pretended I did not see a thing. Later that week I went to make sure our electric bill went through with the online banking. I rarely pay attention to the savings. He does the saving, I just make sure the bills are paid on time. But, I noticed that it had decreased.  Decreased just enough for the ring in his James Allen shopping bag. But, I tried not to think of it because I had a friend who knew about the ring and went CRAZY waiting for so long. So, I just told myself well maybe he bought it but that doesn't mean its going to be soon. Well, this past weekend he started asking me to plan another day trip to NYC for mid December. We went last year mid December, & I fell in love with all the Christmas Decorations, the huge tree & watching the ice skaters. While we were there I saw a proposal by the large ornaments and one in the ice rink. & I told him that Christmas time NYC proposals are magical. So, I am hoping that he is going to do it on the trip. What do you all think?

Re: I think the big question is around the corner!

  • You're right, it's possible. Nothing else to think other than that. Have fun on your vacation, enjoy your BF and your still-kinda-new home, and don't stress about it! :) Again, you're right, it could still be a while before he proposes, so just have a ball with this awesome pre-engagement stage of your relationship - this is a sweet and loving time in your life.

Also, stay here. Tell us about yourself! What do you and your SO do for a living? Do you guys have any furbabies?
  • Ohhhh how exciting!!! I hope it happens soon for you!

  • Congrats! That is exciting. Like @Amapola14 said though, love where you are now. You don't know it for sure will happen in NYC. You don't want to get your hopes up just to have them let down.

  • Maybe you guys will go on a pony-drawn tour in NYC?

Don't think about it, that's when it'll happen.

  • Thank you for your reply. I am very much enjoying this stage in our life. To tell everyone a little about us. We are both 20, We dated in high school, went to all our dances together. However, he was always too shy to actually ask me out. So, our senior year I said "So, are you ever going to ask me out? Because I have been about as subtle as a gun." He said, "I've wanted to ask you out for a long time, but I knew you were always out of my league." I of course just busted out laughing at him because I had this not so secret crush on him. & he told me he would officially ask me out but we had to wait to make it special. & two days later he did on 10/10/10. Uhm, so there is our back story. I am still taking classes and I have a part time sales job. & He is a full time welder. We have one yellow lab, who was originally his. Her name is Sara, my name is Sarah. Haha, he says coincidence but his friends get on him all the time for it.

  • Aw! Congratulations :-) You sound like a very sweet couple! Keep us updated!

  • Just an update. He did buy it he showed me the diamond because he said he wanted to make sure it was big enough. I only asked for a .5 because as I stated earlier we are young and just bought our first home. & I absolutely hate spending money on materialistic thing.. The proposal is way more important than the ring to me. But, he bought me a .59 carat princess cut solitaire. It is ideal cut vvs2 clarity and F in color, The diamond looks beautiful. He also told me that I had to wait for the proposal, he wouldn't give me any details except that it would be sometime before my birthday.(feb. 10th) So, at the most I have a little less than four months.
