Moms and Maids

waiting for dress shopping...

Sigh. I'm a bride and a maid. Needless to say, I'm stressing because my FSIL has yet to decide what date she wants to go look at bridesmaid dresses. Her wedding isn't for another 9 months though so time is on her side. I just hate last minute things, though it's her wedding she gets to do with it as she will. I think I'm just more stressed because I'm an OOT bridesmaid and would like to go shopping with her and the rest of the maids but if I don't know when I can't plan my schedule around it..don't mind my vent. But, since I haven't been a bridesmaid in forever (aka 5 years) How long does it typically take for dresses to come in? When did you start shopping for dresses? I'm really hoping she'll just pick a color and a fabric and let us choose our own since that will be easiest since we're all different body types and locations.

I did my dress shopping for bridesmaids a year in advanced, but only because it was the only real time I could. The next time I'll be in town will be for Christmas which will be 6 months til my wedding and who really wants to go BM dress shopping then... and the rest would of been 1-2 months before my wedding. Yuck.

  • Last time I was a BM, we ordered from David's Bridal and it couldn't have taken more than 2 weeks to come in.

Really? Wow, that's impressive. I always thought 3-6 months. Though, some of mine came in within 2 months. Some of my girls are still waiting.

  • First off, you need to calm down. I know it must be stressful trying to coordinate being a bridesmaid and being a bride, but your FSIL has plenty of time to figure out bridesmaid dresses for her wedding.

Maybe you won't have time to go with her to look at dresses, and that is ok!  She can tell you the designer and style and you can order it yourself.  Not all bridesmaids have to order it from the same store.
When I was in my sisters wedding we all got our dresses from different locations (same designer) and it was fine. I was the first to order my dress and it came in 8 weeks (to the store). Then I had to take it home and keep it for awhile because they didn't want to do a fitting until closer to the wedding and it came in with 4-5 months to go.
I would stop stressing about your FSIL wedding, and when she gives you a dress you order it, and all will be well.

  • David's Bridal dresses come in crazy fast (my wedding dress took a week!) so if she's doing David's Bridal you have nothing to work about.
My girls ordered from Wtoo and I believe the dresses took about 3-4 months? So she still has plenty of time! Bridesmaids dresses take a lot less time than wedding gowns.

Don't worry. I sound worse in the post than I am. I haven't relayed any of it to her. I just would really like to go dress shopping with her since I won't be able to make her shower. I'd like to at least attend one wedding thing with her.
