Cake! :)

How much did you/are you spending on your cake? (usually per slice)... and who was/is your baker?

ps. not looking for anything too elaborate or fancy but would still like for it to be pretty :)
My venue is in Middletown so I would like to stay as close to the area as possible (less distance for that cake to travel the better). They recommend Kim's Cottage confections and I think the price is $3.75/slice. But even if you got your cake from a place further away I would still like to hear how much it was, I have no reference at all when it comes to wedding cakes :)
TIA

Re: Cake! :)

  • We got ours from J Cakes and we paid $5 per slice. I think $3.75 sounds very reasonable.

  • Are you 100 set on cake or would you consider cup cakes with perhaps a small top tier of cake for you and FI to cut? Not sure if there is a cost difference but since cupcakes could be self serve you would eliminate any cake cutting and serving fee the venue charges

We are using Mr. D's in Wallingford. We are having cupcakes, with the top tier being a single tiered cake. The cupcakes are delish!

  • I recommend Fusion Bakery. I believe they quoted us under 3/slice but we decided to go with cupcakes which we are paying 2/each for plus a small cutting cake for the top. Plus they are in Middletown so i dont think they wouls charge you the delivery fee. Definately do a tasting there and talk to the owner. His cakes taste amazing we get all our bday cakes from them as well and the girl that does the decorating is really creative Good luck!

I live in walkingford and frequent mr. Ds often! So many good cupcakes!
  • We used Kim's Cottage Confection (we got it 'free' through a promotion with our venue). Her cakes very very delicous and the base price will get you that pretty feel, but not too fancy.

You can see my cake in this post, it is almost at the bottom of the page.

  • We used Kim's Cottage confections as well. It was 3.75 per slice with our package at our venue - The Barns at Wesleyan Hills. You can see the cake in this video but I can't get a picture of it right now. The video is only like a minute long.

We told her we wanted a rough iced look and she make it exactly like the picture we gave her. It was really good as well - we did half double chocolate and half red velvet. She also did a groom's cake which we had at the RD and that was chocolate and delicious!

That's almost exactly what I want! (different colors/flowers)....
just another random question, did you use CT Wedding group's decoration package or did you hire someone from "outside"? I know they don't want you decorating the space yourself (liability reasons etc.) but when I asked directly if they allow hiring of a professional company to do it they said yes as long as they are approved (have insurance), and I found a company that has done decorating at the Pavilion... just curious :)

Hello. I got my cake from "Cakes by Donna", in Haddam, CT. One of the most delicious cakes I have ever tried in my life! She is also extremely helpful. Her website is: http://www.cakesbydonna.com. All of her flavors and everything are listed there.

  • marta - we used one of CT Wedding Groups decoration packages. I just thought it was easier than hiring an outside company because I loved the look of the package they had.
