Maggie Sottero "Symphony" gown from the new 2012 collection - HELP!

I have been calling around the Metro-Detroit and Ann Arbor areas of Michigan to find a bridal salon that carries the Maggie Sottero "Symphony" gown, which is brand new. I have yet to find a shop that has this gown in stock so that I may try it on. Are there any ladies in the area who might know of a shop that carries this particular style yet (I would be willing to drive a few hours away)? The average price I have been quoted for the gown is $1200, which is a little much to pay for a dress I may not like once I have tried it on (but I do love it, and want it to be the one!). Is anyone familiar with the return policies on bridal gowns once a shop has ordered it in your specific size? Will they take it back and return your purchase price, or is it that once I have ordered it I cannot return it? There was a shop that stated they will order the dress for stock purposes for a $70 fee, but why would I pay that fee if it doesn't go towards the cost of the gown if I choose to purchase it? Any help that you ladies can give me would be greatly appreciated!

You could see if the designer has any trunk shows scheduled.  That's a great way to snag a gown which is not yet widely available.  Hope this helps and good luck to you!

  • I would post this on the local boards for Detroit. With a Maggie, you're not going to be able to return it if you order it in your size (plus, it will  probably take at least 4 months for it to come in). Paying the $70 to try on the dress is worth it in my opinion if you think it could be the dress. Have you tried on similar gowns to see if you like the style?

  • I would post this on a local board. I went wedding dress shopping 4 weeks ago. I'm not sure when your wedding is but one of the shops I went to, the owner said most of the Maggie 2012 collection will not come in, in time for any bride with a wedding before July. Maybe this is just true for the area I live in, but you may want to look into the time to make the dress also, especially if the sample isn't even available in stores yet.

  • I agree with PP, check Maggie trunk shows coming to your area, the one coming to my town (in Oregon) next weekend has the entire Spring 2012 collection.  The Maggie Sottero site has the list of trunk show dates, you can sort by state.

I'm in the same boat, no shops within 3 hours have the Maggie dresses that I love online, but I haven't asked about them bringing in a sample from another store, might be worth a try!

    Good luck!
  • Normally you are NOT able to return a dress that you've ordered - It's a wedding dress!  And you don't want to go looking for a cheaper gown because Maggie sets price points that the dresses must be sold at/around otherwise you can be pretty sure you're getting a knock-off!

I agree, I'd post on your local board.  Otherwise your options are probably to look for a Maggie trunk show, or pay a fee to have them order in a sample just so you can try it on.  A lot of brides end up not liking the dress they thought was "the one", so I wouldn't order it blindly!

If you do love it and still don'd love the $1200 price tag recycled bride might be a great place to find it. Good luck!
  • I live in Yuma AZ and could not find a Dere Kiang dress anywhere around me (not even LA) so I had it shipped in from a bridal store in Michigan.  Paid $20 shipping each way but it was completely worth it for me as it was the dress I bought!!  You could always ask if a bridal store would be willing to ship it to you to try on.  Good Luck!
