Way to start the morning...long

I seriously need to get out of this damn apartment. The upstairs neighbor, who seems to be disturbed in some way or another was apparently threatening to harm herself. So I woke up to the girl's roommate (I thought the girl lived with her fiance, but I guess he moved out) telling some guy to break down the door. Almost this exact same thing happened about a week after the girl and the then-fiance moved in - it took three maintenance guys to bust down the door.

So I stick my head out on the balcony and the roommate is downstairs in her car locked out, screaming that the girl upstairs is threatening suicide. I ask if they call the cops, and the roommate says "no, she'd be upset." Okay, so apparently, they'd rather have her dead than upset. So I called, the cops came, and apparently it was just an attention thing because they all left. I'm sure they'll be peeved at me for calling, but I don't play with that crap. My best friend succeeded in his threat (that none of us unfortunately recognized at the ripe age of 17) years ago, so I don't take chances with these things.

Ugh, crappy way to start the day. Hope you all are having better mornings than I am.

  • That sucks, Brookelyn.  Sorry for such a crappy start to the morning.  My apartment neighbors drive me freaking insane too, so I somewhat feel your pain.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • Eeep!  Hope your day gets better.

And....I would have done the same thing you did.  As a teacher, I'm obligated to report anything close to the words kill, suicide, I want to die, etc immediately so I would have acted out of teacher-instinct and called the police, too.

Here's hoping that they move soon. :-)

  • Yikes. Good call though.

  • I'm with you B. My mom is a teacher, my sister is a social worker. So I guess I've always just had it ingrained in me that that's what you do as a concerned citizen. Better safe than sorry. I hope she's not crazy enough to retaliate, but I feel I did the right thing, and I'd tell her so. The roommate's logic of "she'd be upset if we called the cops, so we'll just break down the door and handle it ourselves instead" baffles me.

  • Salt, they're young. I don't want to judge too much, but I've seen her a few times and she's got a hardened face like she drinks heavily or does drugs. But I don't think she's more than 22-24 range.

Shouldn't they at least have to take her somewhere to evaluate her? Or can cops really make that decision in 3 minutes? Basically, it seems like she makes a threat, they came and she said "nope, I was kidding" and they were all "welp, okay. see ya latter then. let's get donuts."

  • Yeah, I had a few crazy neighbours when I was going to University.

They used to smoke pot all.the.fucking.time. And it stunk up my apartment, so I used to have to roll towels at my front door otherwise the smell would infest my apartment. They used to throw parties until all hours of the night, and calls to the landlord did nothing. She didn't care.

Said neighbours (I believe it was a couple and then a friend that lived there) fought all the time (the couple). ALL THE TIME. Calls to the landlord again - did nothing.

I went over there one day to tell them that if they didn't start to keep it quiet during quiet hours I was going to have to call the police. She flipped. Screaming that I know they use/sell drugs and how dare I even suggest it, blah blah blah. I had no idea they sold drugs (though I kinda assumed by all the knocking on their door at all hours of the night). So I gave it a few hours, then heard them fighting again, then heard something like a vase or a lamp smash. Then heard her screaming to call an ambulance. Then heard a HUGE smash - went on my patio to see if I could see anything, and there was the guy, cut and bleeding - she had pushed him through the patio door.

So, I called the cops. And Mark. Thankfully M got there before the cops, because I was sure they would've come after me. Crazy people. I moved a few weeks later too.

me either; however, this morning I smelled sewage in our house. The last time this happened, our sewer pump wasn't working, so we replaced it. Mark tested it, and it's all working, the pill, the pump, all that junk. The smell is coming from the drain in our basement. Our septic tank was emptied in the summer, so it's definitely not full, and it was emptied long enough ago that it's not freezing up. And I don't want to pay a plumber to come out and look at it. Mark better figure it out!

Sometimes life was easier when you called your landlord so the maintenance guy could come check it out.

  • P2 - if it's just the drain, and it isn't clogged or backing up, you can put some bleach down the drain.  I do that periodically to keep the drain a little fresher.

I have those same people living above me! What's interesting, is I've seen inside their apartment because I'm nosy and looked in when the door was open. NO FURNITURE! They've been there a year and no furniture?? Just a cot in the living room.
