DJ's??

So I'm in contact with a DJ, and he seems really legit.  However, he hasn't told me any prices yet and I was just wondering before he does what price range is decent for a good dj?  Or what have some of you all paid (if you don't mind me asking)??  Thanks!

I think it varies--I have seen anywhere between $800 to $3000. I am paying about $1450.

As kassaby said, it can vary a lot.  But a lot depends on what extras if any you want -- you can't really compare the prices of a package with just a DJ with a package that includes the works (DJ, emcee(s), lighting, plasmas, someone videoing and/or photographing the events to show on said plasma, live musicians, singers, and handouts are all options).  The latter tend to be the packages that cost $2500+, but they include a lot of people showing up at the wedding with a lot of equipment so it makes sense that they'd cost a lot more.

If you tell us what you want in your DJ package people can tell you the quotes they got for that kind of set-up.  That way you can compare apples to apples.

We paid $1400 plus a small travel fee for just a DJ (no emcee or any of the extras listed above, but this was a while back so I would expect prices to be higher now).  She wasn't the cheapest DJ, but we really liked her style and trusted her.  I was very nervous about hiring a DJ because I wanted one that wouldn't be on the mic.

I am also paying a hefty sum ($1700) for just a DJ for 4 hours, but he has a very unique style and his musical tastes jive perfectly with mine. I also wanted to be sure that he wouldn't be playing along too much with my FMIL's request for the chicken dance and inflatable saxaphones.

For reference, the DJ that my FMIL suggested would have been 1K for 5 hours (I think this might be a 'friend' deal, but maybe not). He said he plays a lot of new Top 40 and does a lot of give-aways. He was a nice guy and and it seemed like a good deal, it's just not my style.

I paid a little under $1K for Bob Albrecht from Fantasy Productions. I got the most basic package, which was just him playing music and making minimal announcements. Very good guy ... not cheesy at all and stuck to our Do Not Play list, and kept things flowing very smoothly.

I booked him in fall 2009, so the pricing has probably increased since then.

I am paying $1,200. I think it is the average price.
I am having a hard time figuring out what is the average price for certain vendors. I don't mind paying for good service but I don't want to be taken of advantage either.

I am paying $1350 for 4 hours. That is without factoring in the musicians for my ceremony and cocktail hour...

I am paying 3,500 but I got a lot of extras.  I am having a dj, mc, uplighting, mongram, percussionist, and a viloinist during cocktail hour.

We are using a DJ who works privately and not for any specific wedding DJ company. The ceremony is at 5:30. Cocktail hour is from 6-7. Reception is from 7-11.  Everything would total 5.5 hours.  I think if we got props, this is something we will probably attempt to purchase separately from a DJ package.

    Our DJ writes via email:
If you are still doing music for ceremony, coctail and reception: I will need a second system and have to set that up.
For normal 5hr coctail/reception is $850.  Props $50.  Ceremony would be another $100 for system and having to set it up again.  To make things go smoothly ceremony to cocktail to reception.  I set main system up for ceremony, have coctail set up for when they come in, then move main system to room where reception is, during the coctail hour.  I ALWAYS do the intros, special dances, help organize events and talk to you about everything you want and do NOT want played.  I also have $150 deposit, but balance is not due till day of event (unless you wish to pay ahead of time) and of course cash is preferred for the balance.

mmptdj@yahoo.com is the DJ contact info.

Thank you everyone!  I think that we are just looking for someone to provide the music and make the simple announcements.  We're kind of on a budget because we are paying for it ourselves, so we're looking for something that isn't too expensive.  However, we don't want to compromise the quality either.  But has anyone heard of Danny C Entertainment?  That's who we are looking into.

Yes I have we are actually going to meet with him next Thursday.  I have heard great things about him!  My FI's cousin used him for her wedding a couple of years ago and he was great.  Heather on here also recommends him.

I am paying a total of $1200 for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and 4 hour reception for a DJ and emcee. I didn't get any extras added as my FI and I just want the music.

We are using Elite Entertainment and there prices were extremely reasonable. We are paying $2100, but that's because we added the uplighting package for $650. Without that, the DJ and emcee were only $1,450 and that also includes music during cocktail hour.

DJ Danny C is awesome.  We booked, him, my friend has booked him, and my FI has been to another wedding where he dj'd.  He is not one of those dj's that you have to worry about.  He gets the party going and knows how to work the crowd.  He is also very helpful when it comes to finding other vendors.  He goes out of his way to help you with what you want.  If you want a certain song, he has it.  We were very impressed with his music collection and knowledge of really uncommon songs.
