[QUOTE]What's up with the parent(s) apologizing to her?  I mean, I understand why he/they did but why aren't the kids doing it?  Has there been a no-contact restraint ordered against them or something?

I hate when parents apologize for things their kids did.  I mean, yes, there very well could be some responsibility there on the parents, but for me it sort of takes away from the kids taking responsibility.

<div>I agree completely.  The kid should be the one apologizing.  They won't learn a damned thing from their parents apologizing on their behalf except that their parents will clean up after them.</div>
  • I'd take it.  It's not like she asked for it.  People gave it willingly.  But maybe i'm just greedy.

</div><div>When my eldest DD was 8 she shoplifted a lip gloss from Walmart...I found out about it that evening (she had been at her dad's for the weekend) and the next day I called the store and talked to the manager. We agreed that I would bring her in, make her confess to stealing and he would talk to her about shoplifting, etc...this was after my punishing her from cartoons for 2 weeks and lecturing her about stealing.</div><div>
</div><div>DD was livid with fear but she confessed and apologized and listened to the lecture. She also got banned from the store for 6 months.</div><div>
</div><div>She still remembers it to this very day (she's 17 now) and swears that she will never steal again.</div>

    That's a cute idea. Fun!
  • Not gonna lie, I'd definitely take the money.  I would definitely donate some of it.  But hell yeah if some random stranger decided to start a fundraiser for me based off shiiit I went through I would use that money to pay off my student loans and mortgage.  People aren't donating it to her for her to not take it.  They are donating it because they want her to have it, and probably never have to work a day in her life again after what she went through.

I rather like the idea of her getting the last laugh. I hope she does accept it. People donated because they wanted her to.
  • And ya, I'd probably take the money.  But, I'm greedy I guess.

Plus, a bus monitor makes nothing.  So now she can probably retire?  I don't know.
  • I'd also donate some but keep most.

And get it all in coins so I could swim in it a la scrooge mcduck.
  • I know that people donated to her because they wanted her to have it...but I guess for me, to be completely honest, I'm judging what people are giving their money to.  IMO (and I know it's just my opinion, and I don't expect anyone to agree), there are waaaaay more important things that that $500k (or any part of it) could be going towards.  I feel awful for her, I truly do, but she's not a charity or a cause.

  • I get that J, but the people donating are also well aware of all those other charities and chose to give the money to her.  Regardless of there being a cause or not.

  • People donated money because they wanted her to have a nice life. Honestly, if I'd donated to that fund and she turned around and donated some or all of the money to something else (that I may or may not agree with or want my money going to), I'd be irritated.

Exactly, and I'm judging it.  That's all.

  • Fair enough J.  I haven't donated and don't intend to, but I personally don't see anything wrong with everyone who has.

As for the parent's apoligizing, fvck yeah I would be apologizing too if that was my kid.  I would be completely mortfiied if my kid did that, and would be absolutely ashamed to show my face around the school without saying how I felt about it.

Either that or we just discussed it as much as it could be discussed and no one brought anything new into the conversation in the interim.

  • I miss cartoons like Duck Tales. The stuff on now is just nowhere near as good as when I was a kid.

That's all I'm thinking since Muni's Scrooge comment.
