</div><div>Everyone always thinks it's a nickname.  I agree about liking it now though.  I always thought it was so unfair that my name was never on anything, and (embarrassing) when I was like four I wanted to change my name to Minnie - as in Minnie Mouse.</div><div>
In Response to Re: S/O Baby names : One of my co-workers is a Brit.  But she doesn't have the 'a'.  She says people are always assuming she's a Brittany, but she's not.  Do you get that kind of thing? Do you say "like the pitcher" when you're telling people your name on the phone and whatnot?  My maiden name is a mandatory household thing, everyone has at least two in their house.  I'd always say "like the thing in your kitchen" when telling someone for a form or whatnot.
Posted by pirategal03
Yeah people usually ask if I'm a Brittany or Bridget. Sometimes I've heard the occasional "Is your real name Brit?" ...uh no why would I add an arbitrary 'a' at the end if it was??

And I ALWAYS tell people "like the water filter" when they ask my name. Usually for spelling too because most people spell it with two 't's. My last name is a well known company around here too, so I usually say "Like the ___ company" even though it is spelled differently.

• Surprisingly my name (Amanda) was #3 the year I was born. After my mom named me the ladies in the neighborhood and my grandma told her it was a strange name, causing her to use Mandi instead. She decided I had to be uneek and spell it with an i.  I would rather have used Amanda my whole life. There were far too many Mandy or Mandie or Mandi's around. I even share my name with a famous person. At least she didn't name me Davidia after my father like she almost did.

• For blue. My name is Stacy. Most people spell it Stacey, which is why I can never find a mug or key chain. I always wanted it to be spelled Stacie just to have an i in there and I could dot it with a heart or smiley face. Lame I know. I believe Stacks has the same name but it is spelled different.

i cant look @ it from my phone, but ive only ever known 3 real life people with the name samantha so i cant figure it was very popular around the time i was born. if someone wants to look for me and prove me wrong or right id appreciate!
• H's name is Anthony.  Its always on the list.  But in 1976 when he was born, it was #22

Mine was #2 the year I was born (and my mom thought she was being so unique).  H's was #11 his year.

I once played softball on a team with 6 girls who had the same first name as me.  That was confusing.

I don't know what year you were born so I guessed at 1986 and Samantha is number 21. I'm not surprised by it, around here we have a ton of Samantha's. I attribute it to Who's the Boss :)

I have the same thing!  My name is Cassie and everyone asks if my full name is Cassandra.  Nope...just plain ol' Cassie.  I've never really liked my name, I still don't....I would have much rather preferred to be Cassandra because then I could have chosen my own shortened version of it, or gone by the full name.

For some reason, no one can pronouce it correctly either.  If I say it over the phone, everyone thinks I say Cathy and if people read it, they always pronounce it Kasey.  It's annoying, but I've stopped correcting people.  I've been at my job for 2 years and one of the guys that comes in at least once a week still calls me Cathy...

My First name is number 148 for my birth year.  It's a family name, but there was a girl that grew up going to school with me that has the same name.

I'm sure my middle name (which I go by)  probably didn't make the list. My dad got it from his favorite John Wayne movie, "She wore a yellow ribbon".

• Number, I love the name Eloise too.
I'm also obsessed with the name Irene.

In 1983 it was 40th. But from 1987 to 2006 it's been in the top 10, it's in the top 15 2007 to current.

• My name made #25 in 2001. I don't like that. I never had a girl with the same name in my grade, and it's definitely not common in Montana.

I'm not telling you all my name, so don't even ask.

• My best friends name is Danika Alysia. I don't think her name is anywhere near that list until after the race car driver showed up. A lot of people pronounce her first as Duh-neeka, she gave up correcting them years ago if it's someone she won't see much.

My ex's daughter's is a Cassidy -- nickname Cassie.  I think it's a really cute name.  :)

If we ever have a girl (which is doubtful, because I'm back on the "no spawn!" train), she'll be Sorah Alexis.  Apparently, he had a dream a long time ago about having a daughter named Sorah, and it stuck with him.  I wasn't crazy about the name at first, but it's grown on me and now I can't imagine anything else.  The middle would be for my lifelong best friend.

I was born Jeanette Marie, but my parents changed my name to Michelle Louise after I was adopted.  Michelle is for The Beatles' song and Louise is a family name.

• Melissa was #5 in 1968, and if I'd been a boy I would have been James Michael, which I think would have given me #4 and #1 for boys.
In fact, they had to think fast, because they didn't expect a girl. They picked mine, because they knew my Poppa was going to call me "Missy" (as in, "look here, little missy,") anyway - so the story goes.

I love my name.  I can't imagine answering to Jeanette!  It's not a bad name at all -- it just isn't "me."  Also, I've met the sisters (Joann + Annette = Jeanette) my birth mom named me after, and they're witches.  />.>

• My name peaked in 1971, and was ranked 41 the year I was born.
It made the top 500 for 97 of the last 100 years. I always knew other girls with my name who were a couple years older or younger than me, but never my age.
• I spell my name Sara. For 1987, only Sarah is on the list and its at #5.

My middle name is on the popular list, but not first.

I have an uncle named Elvis.  He was born around 1963ish.
