A few weeks ago FI and I decided we were going to coordinate our 5 wedding cakes by having bows tied around the tiers made out of modeling chocolate. then on the knots of the bows we will be pinning vintage brooches to give a little bling like the photo below. (Although this is with a fabric ribbon)
Ever since then we have been on the hunt for brooches to decorate our cakes! It's actually a lot harder to find them at a good price than I realized it would be. but we went shopping this afternoon and hit up some antique stores where I found 3 vintage brooches for only $20! They are really pretty! 2 are simple swarovski, and the last one is a cluster of pearls and swarovski crystals!
And is that wasn't enough, we got a call from FI's sister (who is in fact baking all of our cakes. A lemon-vanilla 3 tier, a mocha coffee, a strawberry poppyseed, a peanut-butter chocolate and a dulce-de-leche w/sea saltes!) and she had been at a Marshall's store where they had a collection of cake plates she thought might be just perfect! (I want them all at varying heights)
We drove out to the Marshall;s and low and behold they were PERFECT!

They look just like this and the edge of each plate has a scalloped hem. The ribbon can come out so that it's just little square cutouts, or we can replace it with ribbon in our wedding colors! We ended up buying 4 12" large plates and 3 8" smaller plates. Our 3-tier cake we may put one a different plate or just have sit on the table since it will be the largest, and if we don't end up using the little ones for something we are going to give them to our caterer so she can tie them into the food buffet so match the cake display a bit. (All 7 of them only cost $100 total!!!!)
I am just soooo excited!!!
What is your cake/cakes going to look like?
