Hard Water Damaged Hair

Does anyone else have Hard Water and having issues with it damaging there hair? If so, what are you doing about it?
We've had Hard Water since we moved in together 2 years ago, and its always annoyed me but as im growing my hair out of the wedding im noticing it doing so much damage and also making my hair color so brassy(orange!!) wedding is still 5 months away but im freaking out now because it may take alot of work to get it back to "hair" condition. I've seen lots of products and also filtered shower heads and im interested in whatever it takes but its sort of over whelming to decide where to start so I thought I'd see if anyone had success with any certain product!!

Thanks in Advance!!

Re: Hard Water Damaged Hair

  • I had a CW just install the filtered shower head and she says she can already see a difference.
  • Do you by chance know which shower head she got? I've got in narrowed down to 4 but i'm not sure which to try first!!
  • Oh no, I have no idea.  I can ask her but I think the main thing is just that you filter the water.
  • ive already tried 2, i bought hard water test strips and tested the water before and then 3 or 4 days after the filter was on and the hardness was the same :(
  • Your best bet is a good clarifying shampoo (Joico Chelating is great) use that once a week to strip the mineral deposits off your hair, and a purple shampoo (AG makes an awesome one) to tone down some brasiness, twice a week.

  • I think most filtering showerheads are really more for chlorine- you'd need a water softener installed in the house to really see a change in the hardness of your water, and those come w/ their own issues (soap doesn't wash off as well, for example). My parents have a water softener b/c their water is very hard. Chelating shampoo once a week should help.

We have a Culligan filtered shower head and it has helped a lot.  Just look for it on Amazon.  It was inexpensive and easy to install.
