  For your first invite (ceremony) just do a regular invite to those that are invited.  For your second invite (reception back East) go with something like this:
  The pleasure of your company
  is requested at a dessert (or whatever it is) reception
  at the home of
  Mr. and Mrs. Frederick White
  4 Blossom Street

  This doesn't tell anybody what they're celebrating.  Generally the wording for a reception invitation is the same, you just say "reception celebrating the marriage of" instead of "the marriage of."

  PPs are on the right track.
  
  Event #1 - Issue invitations to the wedding itself.
  
  Event #2 - Has its own set of invitations.  They'll often state, "X and Y will be married on Z date.  Hosts request the pleasure of your company at the reception in honor of their marriage on this date."
