  you wount look out of place- my mom wore a knee length dress and all my wedding party wore long dresses

  Here's the rule:  wear whatever makes you feel fabulous. 
  
  If you want to wear short....wear short.  If you want to wear long....wear long.  A knee length dress would not look out of place on the MOB as long as the fabric and style keep it somewhat "in tune" with what the bride and BM are wearing.

  I would only wear long if you think most of the female guests will be in long dresses. You want to look at least as good (if not better!) than them.
  
  Otherwise, knee-length is fine. Look for good-quality fabrics and craftmanship, and maybe wear some really nice jewelry.
