WEDDING DRESS CRISIS - LADIES, PLEASE HELP!

Hello all!

I'm having a bit of a crisis. As some of you may remember, I posted a survey a while ago to help me choose the prefect wedding dress from 4 options.. Well I've chosen one! Finally! This is a big step, especially since I'm SO indecisive. The trouble lies here:

The store I saw it at won't let me take pictures, won't give me a designer name, and won't give me a style # (they obviously don't want me buying it somewhere else). Which is fine, except the store manager herself was the one helping me, and she was EXTREMELY rude, unhelpful and tectless.. She even suggested I change out of a dress in front of a window open to the street (Surprised) ! She didn't help me in and out of any dresses (which as you KNOW, if a difficult maneouver, at best) and she wasn't even around to help open/close the curtains to my change area - despite the fact we were the only people in the store! I can't justify buying a dress there. They don't deserve my business.

So, I turn to you, KnotBrides!!!!! Please, help me figure out the designer/style number! I've been doing some searching myself, but the more eyes the better!

I managed to snap one quick photo, and here is a link to a very similar dress at Jai Bridals (it has every aspect right, except my dress has a bubble hem).

http://www.jaibridals.com/JaiBridalStylePage9058.html

Here's a description of the dress : satiny material, the only sequins/embellishments are in under the bust (rhinestones), the bust material is in a crossover pattern, the skirt is full, and has pick-ups, and a bubble hem. The pick-up in the front is a very distinctive "swirl". Check out the pictures, and please (pleasepleaseplease, God!) help me find this dress!

Forever indebted to you,
Michelle

Sorry to hear about your troubles! Make sure to write up your experience for our vendor reviews section, so you can help out future brides.

I don't know that dress offhand, but I'm going to look for it over my lunchbreak. I thought it looked like Mori Lee, but it's not on their website. I'll keep looking!

[QUOTE]Call the bridal shop and ask what designers they sell. Then stalk those Web sites to find the dress.

You gave me this advice when I had the same issue as OP...I called the dress shop and they said "We carry 70 designers so I am not going to list them all for you."  Grrr.  It was worth a shot, though :)

great idea from milkduds. bridal shops always have certain designers they sell. if you can get some of them you may be able to find the dress on the designer's site. does the shop have a web site that lists their designers? or call them up anonymously and ask.

or maybe what you could do too is email this picture to some of the reputable online sellers and they may be able to tell you what it is.

Is this it? It's hard to tell much about the skirt in your photo, but everything else is the same:

This I have already tried.. no such luck! When I asked the store who the desinger is, she gave me a line about it being a Private Label, and the designer doesn't have a name, so no one can get the exact same dress (?) I've never heard of this - the designer should want their name out there.. So I checked the company website, and Private Label by G is sold at this boutique, but I emailed the company - and this is not their dress. Cry i've alreday stalked all the other designers the boutique had, and to no avail... FRUSTRATING!

I've seen this one already, and it was SO CLOSE, I had to call my MOH and have her verifiy. It's not the one. The skirt is missing that "swirl", and the bodice is too scrunched.. But thank you !  Please, let's all keep looking, I'm bound to get lucky with such knowledgeable brides on my side!!!

Send a girlfriend in as a decoy to try it on and get info on it, as if she were going to buy it? I don't know, that's the best I've got!

They list some of their lines on their site, I would try looking at the lines for those designers...

ugh I'm sorry.. pretty sure we got our alterations done at that shop for my cousin's wedding... they were less than friendly :(

That Jai dress is so close, are you sure they didn't just add the bubble hem themselves?  Could a good seamstress do that for you?

My internet is a mess right now (stupid free "upgrade")... I was going to say it looks like a Maggie Sottero (which is one of the designers listed on your boutique's site). I got through page 19 and didn't see anything that matched the description, but there are several pages left (would have gotten through more if my browser didn't freeze).

I had a similar situation, but fortunately, my mom does alterations for two different (small) bridal shops in my hometown, therefore, is very knowledgeable about the types of gowns different designers have. I'll attempt to get the picture to her and see if she is able to give any ideas... but in the mean time, you may be able to take your picture, the Jai picture, and your description to other bridal shops in your area... they would likely be more than willing to help, assuming they want your business.

FWIW, Bubble hems aren't particularly popular on bridal gowns (yet), so it is probably fairly unique to the designer. Also, I don't think they would add one to the sample dress because if it were requested by a bride, they would charge an arm and a leg to add this type of hem to the dress if it didn't come that way from the designer. By adding it to the sample dress, they'd be setting themselves up to have to add this hem "for free" anytime it were ordered, or a lot of unhappy/ier customers. It's a 'newer' trend, as well, so it's more than likely from a fairly recent collection (generously, 07-current)

OmiLord, you girls are LIFESAVERS, I cannot tell you how much your help means!!!
For those who are searching the designers listed on the Bridal Couture's website, I've been through them all (pretty sure I've seen damn near 1ooo dresses today) and haven't found it. *SIGH*

Thanks for sympathy! I couldn't believe it, they came highly recommended.. ?

And here's another question I'm pondering: since I've been through all the designer's website's at length, it's possible it's a "no-name" dress... When I asked the girl in the boutique, she said vaguely it's a private label, something that the designer doesn't put their name on, so no one else will get the same one. One of a kind.
    1. If she can order it in my size, it must be available to sell to others too, right?
    2. Have you EVER heard of a designer keeping their name a secret?? Isn't that counter productive??

I hope this isn't the case, I'm really looking forward to April 30, 2001, when I'll get to wear the dress of my dreams, and answer all the "Who made your dress??" questions with a DEFINITIVE ANSWER haha

Thanks heaps to all you lovlies helping me out of such a tight spot! Keep the advice flowing, I'm reading everything!!!

The dress linked by opalsky007 here: http://www.sotteroandmidgley.com/dress.aspx?page=2&style=WSM9011 Does have a swirl that I see and it also has a bubble hem and the bust is a crossover. It seems so close to what you said! You're right about the "scrunchy" though - that's not quite right. How frustrating! What does the back look like? Is it a zipper or a corset? Do the pick ups continue around the back?

Yeah, I see what you mean, there is a bit of a swirl, but as you can see in the link to a very very similar one here : <a href="http://www.jaibridals.com/JaiBridalStylePage9058.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.jaibridals.com/JaiBridalStylePage9058.html</a> the swirl is more "defined" .. the pickups were not so numerous in my dress, as compared to the Sottero one.. forgive my memory, but the saleswoman was just shunting us out the door so I didn't have time to memorize everything yet - I *think* it was a laceup back, and yes a few pickups in the back as well, maybe 5.
Good work detective!!! MY gratitude to you!

Can you back to the store yourself and try it on again?  Or send in a friend?  Since they didn't help you to get into your dress, that would give you some time alone while trying it on to search the inside for any labels/tags that might help you?  I totally agree that this shop does not deserve your business!  I'm so sorry that you're having such a hard time finding your dress!

    OKAY ! Laughing

Turns out it IS the Jai Bridals dress, but for some reason the photo doesn't show the bubble hem. I called the store and spoke with someone else, who gave me the name of the designer. I plan to call Jai Bridals tomorrow and ask about the mysterious bubble hem haha!
Thank each & every one of you for your efforts and advice!!!
