Engagement Pictures

Morning Ladies! Hope everyone had a nice weekend!
Two questions: 1 Is anyone waiting til the Fall for Engagement pictures? 2 What is a "reasonable" picture budget?
I'm newly engaged and am totally green on the whole budgeting process. Any answers/tips are much appreciated!

    FI & I are doing out engagement shoot this fall. My wedding photographer said it was be nice to get a different setting/season than our wedding photos and she was insanely swomped over the wedding season so we decided with late August or September. Most photographers include a free engagement shoot in their wedding packages because it is a good way for the couple to get used to the camera and also so the photographer and the couple can interact and become comfortable with eachother. For the photographer's I've checked out, if they were charging for an engagement shoot they charge between $400-$500.

    In terms of budgeting photogrpahy usually takes a large portion of your budget unless you can strike a good deal. Many photographers have an engagment session included in the price so start looking for photographers as soon as you can.  Each photographer has a different style so I recommend looking at others engagement photoes to see what you want so when you speak to a photographer you can see if they do those pictures and the fees. By hour, session, number of takes, changes, location and so forth. 

    Engagement photos aren't of big importance to us so we saved a large amount by not having our photographer do them and had a friend who is just starting out taking ours this fall too. 

    I'm sure you are going to get a lot of great responses.

    Basically what everyone else said. Our photographer charges 400 for epix but we have the whole package photography and videography so our epix already included in price. We're taking them mid August as Fi heads back to school end of August and I want use our epix as part as STD's to be sent in mid Oct

    Thanks for the great responses! I have a few photographers picked out, now it's just down to availability/price, etc. We'd like to get them done as soon as the leaves change and then get the STDs out shortly thereafter. Thanks again :

    We are doing our first engagement session whenever I feel photo-ready. LOL. I'm not feeling very hot lately, so we'll see how long that takes.
    We are doing 2 engagement sessions just b/c it's within our budget and we REALLY want lots of unique photos of us together. Each session will have 1-2 "themes" that fit us perfectly. SUPER excited to do them. <3
    We are spending $300 for an engagement session, and 1 is included in our package.
