Boston Public Gardens: E Pic Permit Cost?

Hi Guys!  We're thinking it would be fun to take our engagement pics in the public gardens downtown.  I know you need a permit, but I was wondering if anyone knows how much it costs?  On the website, I found the permit info for having a wedding, and that is $50 for residents, $100 for non-residents.  Is that the same for just photography?  We don't live in Boston, so $100 just to take pics seems ridiculous!!

EDIT:  also, does anyone know which parks you need a permit for and which you don't?  Maybe we'll just do Christopher Columbus park instead.

Yup, we did our wedding pics in The Public Garden and had to buy that $100 permit. No one ever asked to see it, but just in case, we didn't want to get kicked out of the park during our formals!

I had my e-pics and wedding pics in the Garden.  I asked my photographer about the permit a few months prior to the event, and he said that he has never been asked for a permit while photographing there.  He told me not to bother.  We didn't have any problems.

We were thinking about doing that and it is $100 out of towners and $50 for residents.  Chistopher Columbus park is included in that.  The money goes towards keeping parks beautiful (if it helps justify at all).

I talked about it with one photographer (not person we ended up contracing), but he said he has tried before and been kicked out.

My photographer told me you need it for the wedding, (I guess because you really stand out in your big white dress!) but not for e-pics. He said he's done a bunch of engagement sessions in the public gardens and has never had a problem not having a permit. We're doing ours there without a permit on June 6th. I'll let you know if we run into any problems!!

I can pretty much ditto everything jsychien said.  I had no problems at all when we actually had them done.

Apparently the photographer is the one who gets fined if you get caught, so it may depend on whether they require it or not.  Our photorapher was kind of strict on us getting one so we made other arrangements.

But I did call the phone number on the Parks website and they said the fees are still required (technically) for any pictures, not just wedding pictures.
