Affordable hor'dourves

Hi Laidies,

I am looking for ways to bring my budget back to where I'd like it to be and I'm hoping to do so with hor'dourves.

My venue has a list of hot and cold hor'dourves to select from priced by 100pieces or by platter as one unit.

My venue seems willing to work with me so I'd like to see if they are able to prepare items that may not have been listed.  I would love some suggestions for items that are yummie and afforable.

Of the items below, we are definately doing a cheese platter and the hummas platter (hummas because of the price).  Anyone with suggestions, I'd love to hear from you!

Crab Cakes, Chicken & Pineapple Skewers, Egg Rolls and Scallops.  How many on your guest list?  Are you doing a dinner also?  If you are you could cut 1 of those back or so.

oh no no- I'm sorry I wasn't clear- that list is just what they offer.  I am looking for suggestions on things I can ask them to prepare outside of thier standard menue items.  I'd like to stay away from the $250 crabcakes etc.  I just listed what they offer as a reference point.

I am looking for suggestions on more affordable hor'dourve options!  Thanks ladies

Cheese and crackers, egg rolls and spanokopita.

Maybe ask about BBQ meatballs? mini pizza? Mini qusadillas with fancy salsa? I know one girl on TK is doing a BBQ reception and for cocktail hour she's doing a selection of chips with salsas and dips: regular chips with salsa roja and salsa verde, whole grain chips with guacamole, cinnamon chips with fruit salsas.

Oh, my bad!  You could do veggie, hummus, cheese and/or fruit trays and then maybe one "heavier" hors d'ouevre.

As someone in the food industry I will tell you hor'd are a budget pitfall.  To many people think they are going to save $ and it is so NOT true.
Hor'd have the greatest mark-up and are the most labor intensive (besides desserts) and people eat the most of to feel like they are full and satisfied.
In the business we LOVE Hor'd with dessert events= huge profit$$$$.
