Wedding Theme: Celestial Bodies, a Trip to the Milky Way...

Hi,
I'm currently helping a friend who is getting married in June of this year with her reception.  We've come up with a few ideas on how to make her reception beautiful, elegant, and to a certain extend, outrageously breathtaking.
The main color is blue (different hues).
I would like to get some insight, and resources on how to help her make her reception a dream come true, without going for the tacky stars and moons and whatnot.

Thanks for your help!

  • What are your ideas already?  What kind of venue?  What time of day?

I only find a few inspirational images to help her.  My main (and sadly only) idea was to suspend large crystals with small LEDs from the ceiling at different heights to create the "milky way" or cosmic atmosphere (giving the effect of a fragmented disco ball i guess).    The venue she picked out is the "starlight room" in a reception hall.  I also thought that the ceiling lights could be covered with blue filter paper  and draped with semi-sheer fabric (like clouds if you'd like).

  • Dye tulle in a couple of shades of blue.  Suspend from ceiling with White christmas lights

Another alternative would be to have uplighting with gels of constellations on the ceiling
  • I like the idea of projecting actual constellation images on the ceiling, maybe it can fade in and out into different images?

Thank you all for your contributions, but she really doesn't want anything tacky or cliche like actual stars and moons, but rather something more along the lines of the NASA images.  She'd like to be inside one of those nebula for her reception.  I guess the star projector (that you can purchase in toy stores) might be a great idea!  I'll let her know.

Does anyone have any ideas for table settings?
