Trying to give you baby fever...

Since babies were a big topic of conversation yesterday (for me both on and off the board)I thought I'd post this little poll to get some persepective.

I've never really given it much thought but yesterday I found out that some of my friends discuss it w/their bfs/fis on a regular basis.

Every so often BF and I will talk about it but not seriously, mostly if he sees an athlete with a funny name he'll turn to me and tell me that what our child will be called and from there it turns into a who can come up with the worst name. lol

Well, it wasn't years, but we have thrown names out there every once in a while.  When my friends started getting pregnant and picking out names it came up more.  Especially when I personally thought the names were terrible.  Jeremy and I would talk about what we would want and why we liked them.  Lots of family names which I love.

FI and I have talked about it.  Mostly just what names we like and what names we don't.  I *did* say if we had fraternal twins (boy/girl) we should name them Adam and Adora (He-Man and She-Ra).  I got to wear the nerd crown for the rest of the night.

We do the same thing, Button! I'll hear a weird name and tell BF that I'm calling our kid that and then he'll try to one up it...it's pretty funny, actually.  But there is one name that I have had picked since I was a kid...my grandfather was my best friend (until he passed) and I told him I'd like to name my first born boy after him.  My brother has the same first name as him, and I'd like my boy to have the same first & middle name....and I told BF this and he really likes the idea.  Anyways, his name would be Robert Joseph.

lol it really is a fun game, BFs fall back name when he can't think of anything bet is honus wagner b/c it litereally makes me shudder.

The funny thing is I occasinally thought about naming a kid after my father who was named after his father who was named after his father, etc... BFs dad has the exact same 1st and Middle name as mine, but they don't get along so that kind of taints it.

FI and I have thrown out names here and there. More often than not it is a name we are completely joking about.

We do have 1 boy and 1 girl name we are semi-serious about (or maybe thats a trick he is playing with me). We have even named our "children" (teddy bears from Build a Bear) these names.

FI (wow it's awesome to say that!) and I have actually already picked out our favorite names -  Andrea and Jack.  We both definitly want kids, but have decided we want a few years to enjoy being together just the two of us.

We play the weird name game a lot! It's really fun! Especially because when I was subbing I came across some very interesting names including Cerveza, Silence, Oneste (Honesty), and Placenta.

Lately though, we have started discussing names that we really like and would consider naming our children. We plan on starting to try to get pregnant fairly soon after we get married so it's something on our minds. So far, we both love Emma and Lily but they are both taken by his cousin. I love Molly but him mom has a cat named Molly and FI won't give our child the same name as a cat. (I hate when people give animals people names for this exact reason!!!)

We'll see what we actually end up with.

We know that our first boy (if we have one) will be named Phillip Christopher. Phillip after my FI's younger brother who passed away when they were kids, Christopher after my brother.

As for more boys or any girls, we've tossed out names we liked, but haven't really settled anything. As for me, I like:

Boys - Noah, Hunter, Logan, Aiden
Girls - Vivianne, Autumn, Grace, Olivia

FI has thrown out names far more often then I have. The names he always seems to suggest is a favorite character from TV. A year or two ago he was set on Jack and Chloe -- from 24. I am not a fan of Jack. Makes me think of this skeezy boss I had at one time. I am fine with Chloe. I like names that are a little more unique than he does.... so I guess we'll see.

I've always kind of had names in my head, before the BF came around. Just names I like and want to keep in the back of my mind if I ever have kids.

    Girl: Colleen or Caroline
    Boy: Jason. Maybe Adam.

Acro, I really hope you have fraternal twins now. I wonder how many people would actually get the reference. Love your nerdiness!

We play this game every once in a while. Nothing picked out, but we talk about names. These conversations usually coincide when someone close to us is in the baby-naming stage of their pregnancy.

Name decisions are at a cease and desist until we know the sex of the baby.  We have very different ideas about what makes a good name.
We plan on going into delivery with 2-3 names and waiting until we meet the baby to decide.

BF and I have already discussed this.  The first boy name is up to him (I have option to veto though if its horrible) and he is pretty set in stone on what he wants and it is fine by me.  All other names I have first say and he has veto power... haha.  But seriously we like quite a few of the same boy adn girl names... as long as our friends and family don't snatch them all up before we have kids we shouldn't have any touble picking!

Honestly? No they dont think about it. Sad but true.

Dwest - I'm glad you have veto power. My cousin (male) was dead set on naming his son Vladamir (we are Irish and so is his wife) or Dougherty King Dougherty (in his defense, King is a family name of ours). So yeah good call on the veto power!

I always knew I wanted to name my daughter after my maternal grandmother's "birth" name. Her name is Madeline Marie but she goes by Marie. I plan to have it be Madelyn so it's a little different. For a middle name I am planning to take the middle name of my paternal grandmother which is Cecilia. FI likes the name Madelyn so we are good there. For a boy, it's still a topic of conversation. He likes Aiden, I think it's overused. His family also has themes with names. His sisters all begin with a C and he and his brother begin with a D. So i liked Declan which he said was "growing on him".  I really like odd names. The names I really like I could never get FI to agree to so I'll stick with "normal" ones.

Haha, thanks!  It actually is "my generation" to have twins, which is why that even came up.  A *lot* of my cousins have had twins, though most are same gender and one set is identical.

I'm sure FI and I will think about it more once we actually get pregnant.  I have a ton of girl names that I like, but they're all really old sounding (Emmaline, Imogene, Adeline, etc.).  I always wanted a boy named Aiden, but it seems everyone and their brother is naming their son that these days, so we'll find something else.  I like the idea of using my dad and brother's name, since my brother chose not to continue it, and that's Richard.

Oceana, my nephew's name is Noah.  LOVE.

Also, for whoever it was that said their FI wanted to name their kids after a TV show:  my godchildren are named after the TV show Charmed - Piper and Wyatt.  :-)
