Palace Resorts Weddings

Has anyone had their wedding at a Palace Resort or know of anyone who has? I am wondering about their photographers and how it was working with the onsite coordinator. There are a few things I want to do where I would have to ship items ahead of time and I was wondering how accomodating they are?

Re: Palace Resorts Weddings

  • I'm getting married at Playacar in February but can't be of much help.  Our wedding is very small and simple.

We are using an offsite photographer and I was able to get permission to use him with some help from my travel agent.  I just have to pay for the guest pass for him and for his assistant.  I wasn't willing to use the onsite as the samples of their work was WAY too limited to be able to judge quality.

I can tell you that you won't get to speak with the onsite coordinator until 3 months before the wedding and that their communication (overall, not the onsite) is not good.  Every time I emailed them about something I would wait several days to a week with no reply.  I'd then let my travel agent know about it and she'd get me an answer that SAME day.  So.....my advice would be to use a TA when booking ANY resort down there.  It helps to have someone on your side who can push for answers.  We used BBV.
  • We are getting married at aventura spa palace. The communication is bad though, like the previous post said you don't get to talk to a Wedding coordinator until 3 months before. We are using an outside photographer (del sol) also and got permission from the resort before we booked.

  • We got married at Beach Palace in Cancun last month, and we loved it! : )

We actually went with the photographer booked through the resort (it's an outside company though), and we were really nervous about it, but we ended up loving them and the results.   For the Cancun-Mayan Riviera resorts, the company is Smile Market Wedding Photography. You can get a general idea of their work by checking out their Facebook and website. There's also a FB group that's getting busier that you may want to check out: "All Palace Brides - Past and Future"

As for the onsite, ditto was PP's said about the three-month mark.  We too had kind of inconsistent communication where I had to be persistent sometimes.  But we went into it knowing that with the culture, we likely wouldn't get immediate answers through email.  So I just made sure to ask a lot of questions in each email, and it was totally fine.

We considered shipping some items down there, and our WC was willing to do it, but it cost more to ship it down there than to pay for an extra piece of luggage, so we just packed it.

    Good luck with your planning!
  • Thanks for all of the info! This has been pretty easy until now so I just started to panic and possibly overthinking everything :) I also checked out that FB group, thanks Saric83! And Shannon, I'd love to hear how everything went after you get back and get settled! It's so close!!
