HELP! Pay for hair for bridesmaids??

Is a bride required to pay for her bridesmaids' hair to be done, when getting hair done is optional?

I am on a pretty tight budget and I have six bridesmaids so providing for all their updos would be a big expense. Of course I'll do it, if it's proper etiquette :) But my friends are divided on this. HELP!

  • Only if you are requiring professional hair and make-up. Otherwise it's a nice gesture if you have room in the budget.

  • If you are not requiring them to get it professionally done then no, you are not required to pay for them.

  • I am offering, not requiring hair and make up and am paying.  That being said, if you are offering and not requiring, you are not required to pay.  Now, if you can and you want to pay, its a nice thing to do!
I updated my bio on 06/24/10, however if you want to see my planning bio you have to go to www.lizardlipsplanningbio.weebly.com because I am having a hard time making it clicky!
  • I for SURE wish I could afford it!! They'll look beautiful either way, but it would be great to be able to "pamper" them a little, for all their efforts :)

What if I offer to split the cost with them (and keep the hair optional)? What do people think about that? :)
  • If you keep it optional and offer to split the costs, I think that's a great idea.

Definitely- just let them know what it would cost for them, and see who wants it done.
