Re: Poll: Kleenex Hand Towels

  • Ugh, MIL bought those for us. I'll use them because they were free, but I'll never buy them for myself. I'm not even particularly 'green', but it's so wasteful.

I don't see the big difference between these and paper towel rolls?

Edit: Meaning, what's the big deal of this "new" invention? It seems like you can do the same thing with the paper towel rolls that already exist.

  • It just seems like paper towels to me. So, what's the point?

    Id rather use a towel.
  • I absolutely lost my shiit about them on my blog earlier this week. I think they're the most ridiculous thing ever, and capped it off with a picture of me flipping off the box in the store, because I am over the top and unnecessary like that.

  • I saw one commercial about the new Sun Chips bag that's biodegradable. Only to be followed by a commercial for these things. Utterly ridiculous, I don't see the purpose.
And they make the commercial out to be that towels are now too dirty to use. WTF?

  • No way. In my own home why wouldn't I use my hand towel?? I'm not green at all but I stil lthink they're a huge waste
  • I think it's ridiculous.  Completely wasteful, and a good way to deprive your immune system from the stimulation it needs to fend off the really bad bugs.  Isn't the point of washing your hand to make them clean, so wouldn't a towel used to dry them afterwards also theoretically be fairly clean?  If you really think they're that bad, wash them every few days.  FFS.

  • They are definitely a conservation fail--I don't understand how this product comes out when so many different companies are trying so hard to be "green."

But, I like to use a different towel to dry my face than I use after the shower and after washing hands, so I would use them for that if I had them--but I do think they are over the top and wouldn't buy them for myself.
  • The difference between these and paper towels is that with the paper towels, people tend to touch the roll and other sheets and, subsequentially, getting them all germy.
This idea is really all about packaging... the other paper towels are safely stored away and will remain clean until they are actually needed. It's just like the paper towel dispensers in the public bathrooms, except this thing rests on your towel rack. See, the marketing genius? Your lovely towel rack will not be obselete and you won't have to damage your pretty bathroom walls to attach this thing to them.
The other marketing genius is the commercial itself... showing people touch their dirty hands to the towel, getting it more and more ratty as the time passes.

Now, I ask you... do you LET your hand towel get that gross before washing it or exchanging it for a cleaner towel? And, when you touch said towel, aren't your hands clean from being washed with soap and water? Not in that commercial. The commercial depicts overuse and abuse to that reusable towel that would never fly in most of our homes, even when a house full of company is over.

The commercial preys upon the germ fears a lot of people have, especially with the swine flu "epidemic."

As long as you clean your towels and change them often enough... and they aren't left wet for long long periods of time, then there is no reason to worry about germs. You really should only be wiping water on them... clean water from your bathroom sink.

I'm not a "green" person, but I can't see how anyone wouldn't see the waste that comes with that product?

  • I won't use them for the following reasons:

    1. I'd rather spend my money elsewhere, such as buying Botegga Pelato Moscato Spumante. That stuff is wonderful.

    2. That makes a LOT of garbage.
        a. I try to be earth-friendly.
        b. I hate taking out the garbage, so that alone would be annoying.

The only place I would like to use them is at my grandma's house, because she doesn't change out her towels very often and even when they're clean, they stink.

<div>Haha, exactly. The first time I saw a commercial I said, "Whaaaaat the fuuck? Those are SO wasteful!" I mean, I can go a whole week using the regular hand towel, thankyouverymuch, and then I just wash it. </div>
