I don't know why, of all days, that I am feeling so homesick today. I mean I feel more depressed than I ever have in my life. I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that I'm having a rough day at work, which is making me miss my old job back home.. And also, I talked to my brother this weekend and it absolutely killed me when I heard my nephews and niece in the background... Before I moved, I didn't go a week without seeing them and now it's been since the end of April. I'm just hardcore missing my friends and family today and the way things are going I probably won't be visiting until we go up for Christmas.
So...to those of you who have relocated away from your family and friends, how do you get through days like this??
Re: Homesick
Sorry about your bad day at work, honey :::hugs::::
I think it would help you to keep yourself busy and find stuff/ people in your area.
However, as soon as my "new life" started to fall apart basically, all I ever wanted to do was go home again. I'm no help with this part because I did end up going home.
But I would e-mail my sister a lot when I missed her. It was better than phoning for me, because phoning would make me feel way too homesick at times but I still had regular contact with her.
bren - I couldn't even imagine what I would do if things fell apart here - I am pretty certain I'd do just what you did and move back...
I'll be honest, for me, the homesickness has never gone away. I mainly try to distract myself and do something I enjoy where I live Otherwise, doing something "homeish" will just upset me more. That being said, something it is good to cry about it. I am the only one not within 2 hours and I get left out of a lot of things.

Was it a permanent move for you then? Some people just don't like to move away, and others love it. BF's family is constantly all over the country, but mine has pretty much grown roots back home lol.
bren - I moved down here for FI. I don't know if I'd say it's "permanent" because there is a possibility that we'd move back towards home (his family is actually from the same area) and we've talked about the future and we've already agreed that when we have children and they are school-years age we do not want to send them to any school around here - so at that time we may be looking to moving back there.
it can be tough sometimes but man does it make it a million times better when you go home to visit. Just remember There will be some annoyances that happen when you home for a visit that remind you why you moved away!
PS. you have a PM

I lived away from home for 4 years. I got back to visit but I was always homesick a little. It comes and goes and sometimes it's worse than others. You and FI should go out and make some friends! Take a class together - cooking, wine tasting, etc. Meet some new people...it really helps to have some more friends around;)

BBB - You're so right! I'm sure when I go back to visit I'll be like "Boy it's nice to live so far away and not have to deal with this family drama everyday..." Hah. Checking my PMs now..!
aper - Skype! How did that slip my mind?! I shall do that soon...
Paige - Yes...we desperately need to get out and make friends. Although, one of his co-workers invited us over for dinner this Saturday night with him and his wife, so we'll see how it goes...
Cheese and Jack Daniels?? Hopefully you didnt combine those two...not gonna lie the two together doesn't sound very appetizing. But that is exactly what I am talking about. I was PMSing the other day and boyfriend just randomly bought me chocolate covered pretzels. Totally something my mom would do for me. So having him here makes it just like home.
[QUOTE]Honey, in my book, ANYTHING goes with Jack.
