Mutley I have a book at my house that I bought when my best friend got pregnant (with what would become our first godchild). It has all kinds of names that I loved underlined in it. I will try to get on here tonight when I get home and give you a list. It'll be long, just as a warning. ;-)

Acro, any 'old' names will be immediately vetoed by DH. He refers to them as bridge lady names. Apparently, I bridge lady names.

I am hoping that I will wear him down as we have more kids and get to use one of my old lady names. Mwwwhahahaha.

Mutley - I vote for Ana ;) Actually I like most of your names though.

We've talked about it a little bit, even though we're still undecided on whether or not we'd like to have kids.

Mostly, we'd like to give our kids family names or names that represent their heritage. I also prefer old-fashioned names over trendy names, but old-fashioned is hot right now so we'll see.

In response to whomever was talking about the funny names while subbing... when I was student teaching, my cooperating teacher told about a new student at his wife's school. She was new from Africa and had a name that was pretty unusual, and wasn't pronounced like it looked like it should. They had to get all her teachers together before the first day of school to tell how it was pronounced... something like "Shi-theid" but it was spelled like "Shithead"... the person at immigration must have been having an off day or something.

Agreed. Everyone knows a friend of a friend of a cousin who taught a Shithead or a L-ia (Ladasha). No one has ever produced any proof that it's true.

The La-a one actually exists!!! I think it probably came about because of the urban legend but I literally had a girl in one of my classes with the name La-a. I was shocked since I had always thought it was fake! Like I said though, I think the legend came first...

My BF insists his first born son will be named after him - and I'm okay with that. We've also talked about our second son being named after both our grandparents.

Now, obviously I know we can't plan if we'll have a girl or boy - but he only ever talks about having boys. He says he doesn't want to have to deal with daughter's BFs (which is funny and cute).
I like the name Anastasia for a girl - and I've thought about giving her my moms first and middle name as a middle name (combing them) - Tarilynn.

Yes, we've talked about it.
We're both adament that any name wouldn't be something that is just made up to sound nice...we want meaningful names taken from people/places/things important to us. For example, we've both been very influenced by our fathers. My dad's middle name is "Lee"; his dad's middle name is "Leonardo". So, if we ever have a boy, "Leo" would be an optional name that would honor both of our dads. We'd probably use that as a middle name because neither of us are crazy about it as a first name.
I've always wanted to name a girl Charlotte because that's where I was born and it has familial significance. After mentioning this to boyfriend, he is set on this name because it starts w/ "Ch" and so does his last name, so he wants to nickname (yah, he's already mentioned nicknames) any future daughter "Cheche" (prounounced cheh-chay). I guess it's sort of like a Spanish version of CeCe!
We plan for it to be a good long while before we have kids, but it's nice to know we like the same names.

FI and I will name our girl Shady Nasty (Sha' Dynasty) or Female ( say it like tamale). Ok not actually, we do have a friend who worked labor and delivery in NC, and those were two real names. Urine was another one. has anyone else read Freakonomics, it has a whole chapter on income/ education levels and child's name. It's pretty interesting.

We do like the name Abram for a boy, and I like Molly for a girl. But we have a good 4-5 years before that's even on the horizon.

Mutley, tell DH those old bridge ladies were little babies once.

As for crazy names, my mom was an L+D nurse and then a midwife for many years, and they kept a list of some of the crazier names in the midwifery office:
Gezzikah (Jessica?)
Princess (apparently this and 'Queen' were big in the late 80s)
Divinity
Sharnell
Avalon
Kryztofur & Gynnofur (twins...I think Christopher and Jennifer?)
Lynzy

I wonder how I learned to read properly, spending half my days off from school in that office.

We've talked about it mainly because of his father - For his family (and as I'm told Jewish tradition) its customary to name your children after a recently deceased relative. Hence his father's name is Paul which he hates and goes by his middle name. However it has now turned into the first letter of the name (as is the case with FI and his brother)
To follow tradition we have a number of letters to go by: J, I, & H, but just one name that we both really love.

I didn't read down to zaneopals comment, Sorry!

BF and I have thrown things around but haven't talked about it seriously. The first boy will have Randall as his middle name since is it BF's, BF's dad, and BF's grandpa's middle name. I have always loved the name Kyle but BF doesn't want a Jr.

I always tell him and my mom that were going to name our kid Colby Jack after my love of cheese. I was denied.

I love the name Madeline! I agree with Mutley about the whole Madelyn/Madeline thing. To me, it's like the mom didn't know how to spell the name she liked so she just sounded it out. BF's cousin actually did this with her baby.

FI has prosecuted a La-a (Ladasha). His office has also prosecuted brothers by the names of Orangejello and Lemonjello (Or-ahnj-el-o, Leh-mahnj-el-o). Yes, that is Orange Jello and Lemon Jello. Parents are f-ed up these days some of them.

My bf and I know that we want to have kids so we have discussed lots of names. Right now Chloe and Claire are the top 2. He really wants girls and I want boys so hopefully we will get at least one of each (we know we want 3). For boys I really like Jake but he likes Kaden. But we defiantly have alot of time to figure that out :)

Oh yeah my mom had a patient named vagina once. She originally thought it was a misspelling on the chart or that it was pronounced differently but nope its exactly what it says it is. that was hands down the worst name I had ever heard

I am Jewish and so is my boyfriend, so we both go by this tradition. It doesn't have to be a recently decesed relative - only a relative who is no longer living. To name a baby after a relative who is still alive is very bad luck.

I promised my mother a long time ago I would name my first son in honor of her father. Her father's name was Irving, so my boyfriend and I are going to name our first son Isaac, middle name David after my father. We like the name Isaac because it means "laughter".

We also like the name Gabriel, but we can't use it. We don't have any deceased family members who have a G name.

As for a girl, we've decided on Shoshanna. We both love the movie Inglorious Basterds, and that was the female lead's name (actress Melanie Laurent). It means "lily". Also, 3 out of my 4 paternal great-grandparents had a name starting with S. As a result we have a lot of S-named people on that side of the family!

BF and I actually came up with names after dating a few months-it was just a conversation that took a weird turn.
Boy-Aaron James
Girl-Adelle (or Adele if I win ^_^) Marie
Kids aren't happening for a LONG while, we were just discussing names, then picked them out. It looks lazy because its just an A name + our middle name, but so it goes.

Oohh I love Lillian Grace and Luke Austin!

We always joke about names for our future children...

I've also noticed that there are some really random names for children these days... I currently subbed in a class which had fraternal twin boys and their names were Jack and Daniel... which separate are not bad... but for twins, really? I've also seen a Midori...
